Restrictive mode is literally just for schools I don't know why he brought it up.
YouTube is notoriously clunky and implements features in a half-assed way because no-one working on it actually gives a shit, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a grain of truth to that. However, I can't overlook that Twitch very-recently implemented anti-viewbot policies which saw a lot of big-wig creatives (who used their numbers to beg for sponsored segments) lose enormous chunks of their viewerbase. I almost wonder if YouTube didn't quietly implement something similar on the backend, since Nick absolutely strikes me as the sort to use them to pump views on shit that really has no audience. It wouldn't really explain disparate numbers between different Yahtzee videos - but at the same time, they're also overlooking that Lord of the Rings is an IP with its own draw, whereas 'generic shitty game of the month' is not.

In any case, there's something deeply funny to them pretending that this is somehow a stable career-path they've wandered into which evil YouTube is fucking up, when the reality is that their ability to avoid gainful employment has come entirely at the behest of a tech-company that took advantage of 15+ years of fiscal policy designed to shred the middle-class, something I'm sure they'd all whinge about in a different light. The bite of high inflation and high interest has to be hitting this outfit (which is so hesitant to downsize, as any sane company would do), so I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't trying to hedge with a paypig cash infusion to tide them over until Trump gets some stooge in to drop the interest rate next year - which would allow them to grab some cheaper business loans in order to keep paying Nick's friends to produce content no-one watches.

How the mighty have fallen.

Sure there was the shilling of shitty sponsors and the paymetons typical fare. But now we have 'Jewtube is totes screwing us, don't blame our non-tent! Also paypig us plz' on the menu? Looks like ole' Yahtz won't be making it to 20 years doing this shit unless he wrangles some DSP level paypigs.

I know it won't happen, especially as "punching up" only counts if the target is right wing in some way. But I wish some upcoming indie content creator would call the bullshit of why he should get less spotlight in the algorithm in favour of 500k sub channels.

It's a zero sum game.

He could make it, he just needs to let go of Aids Moby and the rest of the dead weight.

Begging and blaming the algorithm works though. People just uncritically believe anything content creators say about the algorithm.

It's funny that I can instantly recognize Jack.
It's a little weird he gets to be front center with Yahtzee. But I guess the second least liked RLM regular is about as much cred as you can get compared to every other one of these unknowns.

Edit: Since I know he gets nothing from RLM patreon do you think he looks at their numbers and seethe internally?

Probably not, and likely gets paid for the episodes he is on which at this point I think the last one was the shit about the puppetmaster movies and hadn't been on in a while before that. Seems like the only reason they bring him on for the past few years is for some shit that Mike and Rich know next to nothing about but Jay wants someone he can have a conversation with.

The really weird appearance out of him was that she he did with Obscurus Lupa of all people when I guess he was trying to promote his own uninteresting channel since they killed off Previously Recorded back in 2018 or whatever it was. https://www.youtube.com/@harlack/videos
Can also find some random appearance of Rich Evans on his "Poopagain P.I." crap no one watched from over a decade ago and then his stupid "lol, but what if highlander theme" nonsense that again, no one watched. His shit on second wind is the steadiest amount of views he's ever received in ages on his own, and even that's still while riding yahtzee's coattails.

I just hate this modern pussy-fication/reddit-fication of gaming and culture in general. You can have jokes about putting babies in a blender (just don't specify them being non-White!) but god forbid you hurt a person's feelings for a product he sells to other people.
critics in general seemed to adopt the whole "punching down led to trump" mentality a decade ago and its why the amount of snark towards media or entertainment has evaporated in the last decade, especially towards anyone that isn't declared an "acceptable target"

its crazy watching anything from the 2000s because of this edge, even if they were hot takes, at least people had different opinions.
Yahtzee is like James Rolfe: this has dented his legacy by revealing how out of touch he is with the world. The 2011 fedora avatar is like the perfect symbol of his decline
if he was truely isolated it would have been better, but outside of his fashion sense he's kept up with modern game journalism. Some out of touch youtube game reviewer acting like its still 2009 and calling some game a piece of gay trash and saying the developers should be raped would be a breath of fresh air.
Algorithm blaming is the easiest cope of a YouTuber
i read an old article recently and it was interviewing one of the top 10 youtube creators at the time, and even back then they were complaining about the algo, and this was way back in 2006!

That do what, exactly?
I assume some number of them are editors, and having a steady editor whose full-time occupation is to make you funny can be worthwhile.

But to understand their business strategy, think about applying venture capital to places you really shouldn't apply it. Nick's gambit was that he could secure a bunch of funding, throw it at content creators, and one would take off in the way Yahtzee did: that would pay back everything he took out, and allow him to repeat the process.

In the same way that most VC burns billions of dollars (the autopsy of the AI bubble will be very entertaining), Nick seemingly didn't understand that 'unicorns' don't apply just to tech startups, but just as well to content creators. He'll get a handful of people who achieve moderate success, which would be fine if things were more organic - like a Channel Awesome. But when you have contracts and loans (from which you have been personally siphoning off a little holla-holla dolla-dolla), you can't have minor or moderate successes. You need more major ones.

Now, normally in the world of VC, if a company underperforms - you absorb its assets, you liquidate them. If you're not retarded (Softbank), you'll at least recover some of your investment. Nick refuses to liquidate, and frankly because this is a world of IP how could he anyways liquidate? It's just a top to bottom stupid strategy.

content creators under one roof?
This, also I think some of them are freelancers. But Yahtzee makes most of the money so he's basically paying 18 people so he doesn't have to use YouTube studios.

But now he can't fire them because he would get backlash from the second wind community, he's stuck in this unprofitable business strategy.

How it goes:
You can't criticize Indies otherwise you get Selaco esque meltdown.
Can criticize AA because they are poor.
Can criticize AAA but only as long as its disconnected from woke elements.
Channel Awesome
CA was actually well structured, everyone carried their own weight, and they got exposure and small cuts from events. They had their own tabs so they didn't flood the feed, and everyone had its date of content release so they wouldn't step over eachother. The site died well after the Internet Reviewer fad died.

Second Wind is basically a ticking time bomb where every person is 90% of the time on Twitter yet receives a full paycheck.

Between this guy and game grumps its appropriate to me that people who's interest is primarily in childish things have childish business sensibilities and just give jobs to all their friends who don't do anything productive

For being in the signature style of a supposedly irreverent game review show hosted by a foulmouthed cynic, this banner gives some serious "soulless corporate art" vibes.

It's a big problem when the entire "style" of Second Wind is just the Yahtzee artstyle. Homogeneity isn't a good thing if you're trying to seriously sell each series in their channel as its own thing, it just tells people that you know they're not here for anything but Yahtzee. However, I guess you'd need a budget for more video artists if you were trying to do something like that, and we know that's not possible.

It really is the exact same retarded thinking from the escapist. They know yahtzee is undoubtedly the main draw and think the people who subscribe to see him will flow towards all the other shlock surrounding him but in reality all it does is actively drive people away from the channel to just wait for yahtzees stuff to get recommended to them. Honestly there algorithm kvetching has some merit on the fact I and I imagine most only watch FR when it get recommended because I'm certainly not flooding my feed with there trite. At least when the escapist was doing it ZP was at its peak bringing in millions of views a week, now he's basically a worn down 18 year old truck full of known issues, with zero maintenance outside a paint job, trying to tow 20 cars at once
It's clear the majority of subscribers came as a slacktivist hoorah to "fight the man" and just instantly left, I doubt they're will be a second wind for second wind and it'll end up as just a passing wind. The only real question is what color yatzees third show will be, I'm guessing purple. I know passing wind jokes has probably be made already, I don't care.

JFC, that Faggot Jack Packard actually cried to RLM about views on second wind. It gets brought up in the first couple of minutes. Jay then points out that other than a couple of age restrictions and copyright claims they normally get it hasn't really affected them and making videos about it is stupid(as they make a video about it).

Thanks AIDS Moby, now you've got RLM making videos even they admit they shouldn't be posting.
