"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

Same reason Mortal Kombat went woke: censorship is a-okay and great when it comes from your political camp.

All these internet old guard whose shtick was being edgy and rebellious never moved beyond their "FUCK BUSH" mid 2000's era politics. When the perceived majority culture was evil Christians, the most easy target in the universe.
The 'We are going to tear down the system' meme with the major corporations behind them basically.

I've heard a lot of leftos say that one thing that makes Rowling's case different is she's still alive and actively making works and using her platform and blah blah blah.

This guy for example. Especially that skit at the end is just kinda wow.
This youtuber has a character called "Terence" whose whole shtick is that he's a proud Ravenclaw and firmly connected to the HP universe and its clearly a deep part of his history... and yet because JK said a few dubiously-mean things, literally he's giving it all up and throwing away his wands. That Dominic sees this as a reasonable thing for people to do at all is just rather telling. Of course he wound up never using Terence again because even he realized that a Terence divorced from Harry Potter is basically an all-new character
I used to really enjoy Dom and Lost in Adaption, so as I saw him grow increasingly radically left it saddened me. To a degree it still does. I wonder what changed him so much from his early work.

I thought Jam was his best book, mogworld was alright the others were a bit of a slog.

Not hugely surprised by his retarded jkr take given he was mates with Jim the fat tranny and all that crowd.
I liked Mogworld quite a bit but Jam didn't appeal to me. For me the Save the Galaxy book was fine, it left no lasting impression on me whatsoever and if he weren't an internet doood it would still be taking up space in a Hard drive.

Video's up on Youtube now. Started off with 700 dislikes to 1.7k likes, but has somehow changed to 2.8k likes and 200ish dislikes since then. Anybody else seen something like that or is it just Return Youtube Dislikes fucking up somehow?

Atomic Heart review is also up on Escapist. What a 1-2 punch of games to review lol
>starts off with a comment about "systemic transphobia"
yep, it's gonna be a good one

The Atomic Heart review is honestly one of the most disgustingly hypocritical things I've watched in a long time lol. He brushes the 'Russia is actively fucking a country' thing under in like 10 seconds with a man tits joke. Fucking lol. Dude really is a soy golem.

It really is something to see him spend 2 minutes ranting and raving about an imaginary opinion that's opposite to his before going on to spend 10 seconds total on actual verifiable war crimes within the same fuckin week. The review was even worse-off for the game itself; at least Hogwarts Legacy was given more elaboration than "it's knock-off bioshock but russian". All I gathered from the review was that the story was shit, Yahtzee hates the protagonist, and there's a crafting element for relatively shallow combat. Which I guess is enough, but it felt a lot shallower than HL's. Nothing about the world? No mention of characters save for the protagonist and the villain? Really?
And why were the jokes so half-hearted? It almost felt like he didn't want to be making jokes about the whole thing, he even threw in a low-effort WW2 joke for the closer.

Check out how he was back in 2004:

Particularly this unrelated tangent from a rant about how much he hates emojis (or "smileys" as they were called back then) :

They bring to mind those teenage girls in blisteringly irritating American teen 'comedies' who prance around like they're the queens of fucking Sheba just because their doting parents bought them two and a half square feet of material from Next for seventeen hundred dollars American. The kind of girl I want to kidnap and force-feed McDonalds extra value meals to twice a day for a month. If you took every dick that has passed the lips of some hogtied anime girl in every appropriate image and piece of fiction on the internet and stitched them all together into some colossal, planet-destroying superdick, that's what I want to see these girls raped with.

I did notice some incel inclinations about him while wathcing his Let's Drown Out series, nothing too serious but i could tell he realy wanted a woman in his life, i'm not that surprised he was like this when he was even younger.
Just goes to show that behind every libtard there is a raging sex fiend.
If we're doing the kiwi thing of creating a profile for him, here's a tidbit; he's had "issues" with sex and sexuality for awhile - at least since 2007 when he released 6 Days a Sacrifice, which included a sex scene that seemed kind of forced for the sake of the plot (one of the characters had a broken neck); when a Let's Play of his series was made in 2010 on the Something Awful forums, he dropped by to give some commentary - and some insight into where his mind was at the time (select quotes posted here, full text on the page at the bottom).

So you agree that having sex would be painful if you were that heavily injured, but you still call it 'taking advantage'?...I considered making it seem closer to a sexual assault than anything consensual but that weirded me out even more.

Fact is, this is me trying to do something disturbing without realising that I'm the only one it disturbs. I've come to develop a weird aversion to sex. I've never been really sold on it. It's possible I have some hangups from a few things from my past, but these days I'm pretty much celibate (and it's not for want of female (or even male) attention, thank you very much, I mean, I own a bar, for christ's sake). I don't think it's immoral, or anything. I just find it a bit gross. This may be linked to the fact that I hate kids and the thought of having any of my own makes me want to stick a gun in my mouth.

The sex scene was intended to be grotesque, not in any way titillating. It's about characters succumbing to something animalistic as they lose their grip on reality...but I understand that most people don't see sex the same way I do, so the intention might have been lost. I defend the concept, but not so much the execution. Doing it again, I probably would make Janine overtly rape him. At least that's got the shock value. And lose the text. Or at least change it to something like "AAAAAAAAAA FUCKING HELL GET OFF AAAAAAAA"

I'm seeing 6.8k likes : 283 dislikes, and critical comments seem to be getting deleted. Fuckery's afoot, but that's to be expected from a channel that can get away with showing lightly-blurred genitalia that's implied to be a minor's and not even get one of those "this is for adults only, watch on youtube" warnings. Balan Wonderworld's review does that

Nah, when his stuff started he was rather apolitical. One of his first videos was how awesome the Starship Troopers book was.
Yeah but Dominic Noble also has a bad tendency to miss subtext and not know jack shit about the authors whose books he reviews. I seem to recall one of his other early videos actually reacting to something he was told about Starship Troopers after his video went live.

In fact that's actually something I find the most telling.... when he talks about authors like Alexander Dumas or Michael Crichton, its clear he doesn't know much about them... because if he did, you know he would go on long tirades. And yet the second time he talked about Crichton (when he reviewed Andromeda Strain), all he knew about the guy was "he really loves Science" (followed by an autistic gag that betrays the fact that Dommy Boy used to work for Channel Autism).

It's amazing to me someone could do any research at all on Alexander Dumas and somehow not find out that dude was an arch-misogynist, or any research at all on Michael Crichton and not discover that most of his novels basically laid the groundwork for anti-woke sentiment. I'm not even a huge fan of either author an I know this stuff. This just further gives Dominic Noble this air of being "the Irate Gamer of the novel world" (as I so dub him).

...... To the rest of the thread: Yeah sorry for being off-topic but Dominic Noble somehow hasn't earned his own thread yet.

What's up with The Escapist's Socialblade? I can't access Socialblade at all from my PC (it just keeps reloading a captcha and won't let me through no matter how many times I verify that i'm human), but on my tablet I can see that the channel's subscriber count is very very odd. According to Socialblade, the Escapist has gained 0 subscribers for two whole years, save for sudden spikes of exactly 10,000 more for the past 2 Januaries (and, for some reason, April 2022). Video views have been somewhat normal, if on the decline, but the sub count is totally fucked. Is this just a Socialblade thing?

This is actually a really fucking good lp. I saw Yahtzee's Ego Reviews years ago and while they had interesting commentary, this guy is poking holes like an automatic sewing machine. Stuff that Yahtzee never even touched on.

E: Feel free to scroll to the bottom of THIS page to find something that will doubtlessly be scrubbed by some sweaty rapey killjoy once he catches a whiff of it.

He really deserves his own thread when you put it like that.

Nick (the editor), the janny sweep sweep those naughty comments

My Return Youtube Dislike extension shows 16k likes/2.6k dislikes at the minute which is a really high ratio for something that isn't a major corporation announcing how much they hate their consumers or a Youtuber with a terrible apology for pedophilia or something.

What a stupid POS. You review video games. I don't want to know what political beliefs you have. This phenomenon is so baffling to me. Let me get all the money from everybody, or piss off half of my audience/customer base? Well, the half that agree with me will surely double their spending, so I break even....

All he had to do to avoid the mob was say "I'm not going to talk about the politics of the author, I'm reviewing the game on whether it's good or not" I'm sure some of the troon army would still be pissed, but you have plausible deniability that you aren't actually against them.

I couldn't stand Dominic Noble because adaptation studies are retarded to begin with, but he doesn't either go deeply into the actual adaptation issues like how do you convey the essence of x, or the contextual issues such as production, author intent etc. so I find his videos very unsatisfying.

I can't believe Yahtzee and the Escapist spent more time attacking a British woman because they were told so by mentally ill men in dresses than commenting on war crimes. Sad.
