If it started being discussed as a cult classic like Earthbound and Dark Souls, Yahtzee will do a 180 and declare it as one of the best games ever made.
I wonder if Yahtzee even liked Painkiller or only mentioned it because it is a favourite obscure game with a cult following.

I blame him amongst other popular critics like Jim Sterling in fucking the industry by either ignoring AA games or judging them by standards of AAA, while kissing the ass of indies and walking simulators.

Ah, Yahtzee. One of his ZPs gave me my favorite phrases to describe just about every situation I stumble into:

Oi! Shit's Fucked!

I still remember back when Demon's Souls came out and he put it down because he wasn't having fun, only to check back years later and suddenly it's one of his favorites. The guy's never had solid takes, he's a muh story faggot too.
He's talked about this repeatedly, he gave the game another try and purports to love it now. I mean, fair enough, we've probably all had at least one game like that.

This wouldn't even be the first time, either. I recall he also did a ZP saying he hated Ghostbusters The Video Game but then immediately did a text followup saying he hated the game and to disregard his video review.

Which to me highlights the bigger problem: his format is basically just play a game for nowhere near long enough and just come to a knee-jerk conclusion. Not really helpful.

The bigger issue is that Yathzee is still a games "journalist" so his taste in gaming is shit. He will always be known as the le funny fedora man who talks about games using slurs and a british accent, I doubt anybody actually watches his videos to hear valid opinions about videogames or their design(I hope not)
There is something about video game journalists and the games they (think) they like. Yahtzee follows the sin of preferring <4 hour indie "experiences" and likes to jerk off indie slop like Undertale or Night in the Woods...yet still pretends to like "hard" games like Cuphead.

I guess it's pretty telling that Factorio went unnoticed by him. I can see him getting filtered by blue science and declaring "BORED NOW".

So there was an interview with Yahtzee and Nick on MinnMax. It's an hour long, but two points of interest:

- Confirmation, at least according to Nick, that (as suspected) Yahtzee was more or less paying the bills for Escapist, although a couple other shows were "catching up", whatever that means.

- Second Wind is in negotiations to obtain the valuable IP from Gamurs (or however you spell it).

I like the new artstyle. I can't really be bothered to care about Alan Woke 2 however, it is a dreadfully boring walking simulator where the most interesting thing about it is the Sweet Baby connection. I guess at least it can't be considered a premiere, since he did Fully Ramblomatics before he started doing Zero Punctuation?

Video is out and turns out it's the same thing as ZP, no surprises there. Though the red does hurt the eyes a bit, something that the yellow never did.
He seemed a lot more negative towards the game than most other reviewers (it has a Metacritic of 92). I can't judge it since I haven't played it, nor do I have any intentions of playing it as I didn't enjoy the first game.

Ooh. This is bootleg ZP to a T. I really hate the new eyes.
Yahtzee himself looks like John Egbert cosplaying Caleb from Blood (that last part's probably intentional) and everyone else gives me that vibe of "Author's pet character that's like so super nerdy and quirky you guize". You know; really fucking irritating.
I like how the background keeps shifting depending on the setting but ironically all of them are much more easy on the eyes than the standard shade of red. The colour palette is also now less consistent with more random props being coloured (incidentally looking like they've been plucked straight from the BeOS desktop).
Replacing the imps with his cute pet dog was possibly a good idea but it means that he can't beat it about as much and I'm almost concerned at how many times he references the fucking thing. Is Yahtzee's dog "The Bull" in his wife's BDSM relationship?

The eyes are awful, but I like how he seems to go more in-depth with the reviews, at least if this one is of any indication of the future for this series. ZP has gotten to a point where it was just a weekly 5 minute comedy skit, hopefully these will be more informative. His last Sonic one was just half baby poo talk and other half making fun of Sonic in general since what else are you going to say about a billionth generic 2D Sonic title that just happens to have a forgettable multiplayer mode? At least he didn't seem to die 30+ times in his game!

Good thing he brought up the endings for Alan Wake. Since Remedy went woke, you need to play a bajillion unrelated games to understand the plot and Alan Woke 2 seems to be kind of shit in general, it seems just playing the original and DLC wraps up the series well enough if one is interested in just that. I guess I might give both of these a go, then, sucks for people who were waiting a decade for this to come out I guess.

I guess Escapist is just kind of fucked then, huh? I mean, who are people going to watch now in any meaningful capacity there, especially since the whole breakup left a bad taste in people's mouths?
