Clearly, all the people there get along with each other well-enough, but the simple reality is that most of them have no draw and should be let go of. That's kindof the thing when the only skill you bring to the fore is "I have a personality," as opposed to "I know how to edit" or "I can create art assets" or "I can compose music."

It's definitely interesting to see the exact same series of mistakes playing out in the exact same way again, though. It suggests that the closer we get to capsizing, the more stupid shit we'll hear the Second Wind "cast" say out of one side of their mouth while they give tell-alls out of the other.

We know that Yahtzee is paid significantly higher than everyone else, which makes sense as he's the main draw and Nick just handles the behind-the-scenes stuff. But if those are set numbers, then there's literally no reason for anyone else to try to get better if that pretentious fuck eats up all the money anyway...and times are tight, then dropping all the money-losing bullshit shows is the right option.

That's assuming everything is on the up-and-up and no one is using the website's budget as a personal slush fund (which I wouldn't put past Nick or his cronies doing).

Disco Elysium, New Vegas and Pathologic all fit this bill perfectly, they are deep, they are nuanced, they are multifaceted, there are a million avenues of discussion and interpretation, people still argue about the NCR and the Legion, and there's 500 videos talking about pathologic and how they interpret the story, and it takes 5 minutes of playing disco elysium to understand how many forks it has, but capital G gamer faggots tend to throw a fit whenever they're brought up because unless the protagonist of a game is a bald space marine shooting black people the game is automatically communist propaganda.

I know thar most gamers have their own independent voice, but as much as we like to shit on game journos, they still in the end influence the majority of casual game audience. Sure, we get a “win” here and there like polygon shutting down or concord failure, but these awards and mainstream game media does influence people’s opinion about the game.

Let’s take Stray / Disco Elysium, beloved by critics and has made 1000 videos essay. Check in on those steam reviews and you will see people praise it as the coming of christ, even if as a game it is a step backward to what we have a decade ago. It’s just a walking sim / choose your own adventure that has zany characters that made it look deep. Because majority of gamers now are casual, Yathzee and major publication still are thought to be the voice of reason. Most gamers nowadays don’t even know what happened in gamergate.

Also I will argue that Disco Elysium isn't that good of an example. You have choices but you are still railroaded, and the game is too much relying on tons of text instead of the environment and acting. Cruelty Squad is a better example for being the complete opposite design wise.

I mean its a text based rpg. Of course its gonna rely on text, its basically an illustrated novel.

Anyway It works for a similar reason new vegas does, all roads lead to rome, but there's a million forks inbetween. Nearly no two playthroughs of the game are the same and sometimes failing can get you more intresting otucomes than succeeding.

The characters themselves are also extremely fleshed out and nuanced and it pains a very intresting world torn appart by communism and neoliberalism with all the people inbetween caught in the crossfire, it works both as an epic story of ideologies and a grounded story of individuals (which I think new vegas kind of faltered in that regard).

People still argue over whether or not evrart is an true believer or just a mob boss paying lip service to socialism, what are the merits and demerits of the moralintern, harry as a character Joyce and her ideological shift.

You can argue over its merits and demerits, but it is subtle, it is nuanced, and it can be interpreted in various different ways, which is what the og comment was complaining about with games.

i'd like to point out that the same masturbatory shit happens with baldur's gate 2 and fallout 1 by whom... you can take a easy guess, however there is a little asterisk in that because both of these games were made when tech was still shit meanwhile DE weighs 20 fucking gigabytes whereas BG2 weighs 4GB and fallout 1 weighs.... 500mb.
