This is a thing I've encountered more than I'd like to believe within the furry fandom. If a popufur is suddenly uncovered to be a monster, either because they groomed a minor or abused an animal, many furries are willing to look past that and ignore it as best they can regardless of evidence.

I don’t think it’s about not getting MATI, just not expressing how MATI you really are.
