Inactive Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka - Deadbeat (emphasis on "Dead") founder of Something Awful, forced out of his own community, on his second divorce, stuck his dick in crazy, "Birth Giver"

Lowtax would have absolutely lost it if any other front page writer linked their articles to a personal offsite and scrubbed the SA logos.

It's super unprofessional as a writer to do this, too, especially since nowhere does it say anything like "first published on Something Awful"

No kidding

I remember he had his goons zerg rush some poor kid's myspace who cut and pasted some of his old movie reviews.

And lets not forget the Lowtax-ebaum's internet war of 2006.

So ok though when does SA actually become like just a damn ad filled crapsite because I slight PL but I was part of a minor SA wannabe site that broke off of the HardOCP forums because they didn’t want to deal with shitposters who wanted to talk about non hardware PC related stuff anymore and if you go to that site now (https://genmay.com/) it’s like two posts and ads up your ass when it used to be pretty active. Two decades ago. I know I’m old fuck you.

I always used adblock of course but SA has had problems with advertisers forever. The wordfilter exists when you're not logged in so advertisers wouldn't drop the site due to naughty words and even then for over a decade they've had problems with browser hijackers, popups, ads with sound, etc and their main ad company would act shocked and offended that this was going on under their watch and then proceed to do nothing about it. Goons never click ads either even if they're being gracious enough to not run an adblocker or pay for no-ads on the site.

For now it still seems to be somewhat active but I haven't been visiting for several years, although there's still some material for the SA thread a lot of it is rehashing and posting old stuff and now you can't even use words like "bitch" without getting talked to at the very least.

I knew it wasn't even worth browsing SA anymore when somebody used the word faggot in an ironic way and all the wokes got in line to proclaim their lower-case-no-punctuation-mark outrage in the 2-3 following pages of the thread because everyone seemed to be worried to break the two minutes hate too early (before the offending party was 'rightfully' banned) and be seen as a bad party member. We all know Richard didn't have a non-drug fueled thought since 2002 but I wouldn't have faulted him to declare that place unsalvageable, it's ridiculous. Word and thought crimes are always a big thing with authoritarians, too.

So much for getting his low six digit Bitcoin payment back.

Jeff is a simp for troons.
Jeffrey’s motivation is just holding court with the goon serfs. Jeffrey was on the ground floor for Bitcoin so a couple dollars of initial investment likely covered the cost of SA.

Goons have an interesting relationship with Bitcoin. At the beginning, goons made fun of it but many still got in when bitcoin was a few cents to a few dollars, Jeffrey included. So despite making fun of it, several goons became millionaires off of it. The tankie goons would scream bloody murder if they found out guys like Jeffrey are millionaires; they feel honest wealth can only come from the government or their trust fund. So Jeffrey generally keeps it low key about his worth, even to the point where he refuses to take ownership of the LLC.

So he will never intend to make money from it. He still keeps the tenbux because goons think it weeds out the riff raff. That argument never made sense considering $10 doesn’t even cover their fast food expenses for the day so it didn’t really keep anyone out.

Thats not entirely true, the $10 registration fee really HAS kept a lot of people out (best example is the Dragonrompa LP thread, where the $10 basically stopped a Tumblr invasion) , as well as kept the forums spam free. It really isn’t the worst idea, but I can’t imagine paying $10 in 2021 for Something Awful.

Its a nuisance fee that just means you either have a credit card or you have a simp who will buy you a gift certificate and/or someone sucked off a mod hard enough for a free account.
All of those things go towards preserving the SA culture, which is a cult of personality built around the mods.

Isn't that gatekeeping, shitlord?! you know who advocates gatekeeping? Rethuglikkkan Trumpkin Nazi CHUDs.
MODS???!!!!

Part of me remains surprised that SA never moved away from its $10 gatekeeping fee and towards something like this:

Answer:
In the heyday of SA, the general internet consensus was subscription fees were for bitches.

At its lowest point (Before lowtax was undone by his sweaty toes) as confirmed by the numbers Jeff-o posted, SA was costing 2K to run and was pulling in 6k. Just in one-time forum sales. That was $4,000/mo which even after child support was enough to live a middle class life and keep a ready supply of Ambien on hand in Missouri. That doesn't include the one-off ebegging for spines and MS Paint Spaceships that were never delivered, the patreon, or the small pittance from the site ads.

There was no reason to spend money on a coder to implement a subscription function because Lowtax's main needs (pills) were being met by the existing system. Subscription model would have shrunk the user base even more than it already is.

Jeffo will never implement that because he doesn't care about money he cares about internet power.

Imagine if you had time travel powers and you could show someone who believed in Lowtax so much they wrote this song and made this video Lowtax's current life up to 2021.

Eric Bauman was a content stealing piece of shit, but I don't think he's domestically abused every person he's been married to while taking prescription drugs recreationally for two decades.
