I lived in a major city for about three years, which is the longest I've spent in a city. It happened to me twice, but it was not really a catcall, just some black dude yelling that he liked my shirt or some other incoherent thing that didn't register. It's the yelling that annoys me just because it's startling and I don't like to have to interact with people on the street!i have literally never witnessed catcalling IRL, only in movies where it's usually played for laughs like
>hot blonde woman in short red dress walks by a construction site in summer
>sweaty construction workers with yellow helmets turn their head after her in unison and stare at her ass while doing the wolf whistle
>she turns around and winks at them half-flattered and half-annoyed
maybe its common in america where all the bitching seems to originate, who knows, not where i live though
But hey if I had actually bothered to dress up that day, I would probably graciously nod if someone noticed. It's just that anyone who hangs out on the street probably doesn't have a filter or way of doing it that isn't just "LADY PRETTY" or "GIVE ME ATTENTION." Which just feels discomfiting more often than not. But that doesn't mean they're assaulting me.
