The animosity for Phil is hard for outsiders like Null to understand. Some claim Phil is gaslighting retards and such, but at its very core the issue, I believe, is that Phil never is punished. He is in fact rewarded for his gross behaviour, despite his own efforts and those of the OP. He lives his life in a very ugly manner, thumbing his nose directly at fate, God, good sense but continues to succeed. Compare this to Spoony who has had his woman leave him, forfeited his home and returned to his parents in shame. There is no real catharsis, no emotional relief. For example, this is the basis for some detractors feeling Phil had been squirrelling away funds in an retirement account: you just know he is going to "get away with it." This can entrench detractors deeply in resentment and hate. It is hard to understand unless you are in it. As for myself, my motto has become to "love every laugh."

For example, @Null imagine if each of Melinda's frivolous lawsuits were successful. Despite improper service, no jurisdiction, not stating a claim, what have you: it just worked. Now remember the detractor community has existed for years. Over time the anger builds up, it can effect people.

See, there's a monumental difference here: Melinda Scott is not only a stupid whore who's produced 6 children (I believe) but also lives entirely off the government dole while using her time not working and neglecting her kids to launch paupers lawsuits she doesn't have to pay for. There are actual experienced judges and lawyers and private individuals whose time/money is being wasted by that walking canker covered uterus, and they have absolutely no say in the matter.
I don't want to speak for @Null here, but for people like him who see families and children as being a sort of objective end goal, which isn't uncommon, the fact she pops out kid after kid while other people abstain due to a sense of responsibility only to be attacked by her, while they pay for all of it, probably seems downright repugnant.

Spoony could unquestionably still be living just like Phil if not better, but will not show up to do something even once a month let alone 6 days a week. His house and his woman would still be there if he'd made even a slight effort. There was, and is, no objective roadblocks stopping him from making a living online again except his own ego and constant wallowing in self pity. He could theoretically do it right now. He won't though.

Phil, on the other hand, is a deliberately childless man who never screwed anyone who didn't willingly involve themselves with him. Prior instances of copystrikes, in my book, would be his absolute worst crimes. If you look at it Phil isn't really especially lucky, he's just blindly, often idiotically persistent, which I admire on some level.
But point is dude is an absolute saint compared to countless cows on this site that most of those supposedly righteous A-logs just ignore. On its face it makes no sense.


My running hypothesis for where the real hatred comes from is the fact that Phil is a somewhat exaggerated funhouse mirror version of a lot of dudes online: he's a socially incompetent, neurotic, highly immature momma's boy with very few/no real life friends and major issues with trust and intimacy, who drinks too much and rarely leaves the house, and I think some people are driven insane by having that mirror held up to them (although that isn't isolated to Phil: see the haydur nation and Amberlynn).

So I suspect it's less that outsiders are uninformed and more that a lot of detractors aren't being honest with themselves about why it is that they're so consumed by hatred for someone who's ultimately pretty inoffensive and easily ignored when they're on an internet full of some of the most wretched scumbags to walk the planet.

It adds a whole new element to the whole show in my view, that there has not been some grand money-hoarding conspiracy, he truly is... In a circling the drain situation, granted I doubt he will ever truly go down (at least not anytime soon). This is really how he acts when his finances are in turmoil. I think many people live in financial hell, but it is interesting to get a front row seat to it, especially when it is a character like this.
