Hollywood has shoved black token characters into anything, at this point it just makes me cringe when it's the first thing I see in a trailer.

Depending on how this game is handled, it might turn out okay, but also understand that based on previous experience, I will expect this game to be about HURR WHITE COLONIALISM DURR until proven otherwise.

this, that's why I give THQ the rare benefit of doubt. probably won't hit the highs of ja2 (it's current year after all and the industry is what it is), but we might still get something good out of it.

I'm just reminded when the new Xcom came out, every nostalgia fag cried their autistic tears about "REEE!!! MUH CHILDHOOD WAS RAPED!!!" despite it getting a much bigger welcome and enjoyment from people. To these people, it's not about getting new players interested in the franchise, it's not about a series being returned, it's about how it must cater to them and only them, the "muh tru gamah! Back in mah days" type assholes and the game must stay a 100% to their liking and any changes done will involve them shrilling their virgin balls off. Also, please don't give me that bs they want improvements or expenditure of the original, they want the shit to stay the same so they can act all smug about it. I've seen fanboys cry and piss over the most minor of changes, even when the core gameplay was the same and it retained the core idea.

Wow, did people really hate XCom: Enemy Unknown that much?

All I ever saw for it was praise, but then again I wasn't involved with the XCom community at all.

But yeah, I'm not saying it's going to beat JA2. Games were a completely different beast in 1999, especially computer games. You're never going to get that deep with detail with 3D engines and graphics I think. I think it has a lot more potential than Flashback and Rage though.

Still, I think it could be fun and I'd actually like more people to get into Jagged Alliance since I really like the characters.

Would not be hard to go with a storyline that sounds something like this: "The sub-saharan state of Made-up-ia was a paradise of picturesque, African culture, but then the evil TROMP and his army of FASCISTS showed up with guns and drugs, enslaving the people and forcing them into doing terrible things! They have poisoned our hearts with their WHITE SUPREMACY! They are after blood diamonds and buck-breaking! Oh woe is us, for our proud state suffers under OLD WHITE MEN!"

That is to say, the big bad evil guy might just be some white rich cocaine snorting asshole from the US, who has plunged that poor nation into chaos.

I have zero faith in modern videogame makers at this point. My intentionally retarded take on the plot that you see above just represents the most asinine and idiotic thing that gamedevs might come up with to shoehorn modern politics into the setting and given the more recent past in media, we know that well of idiocy runs very deep.

I'm optimistic about the potential woke-ness of the game. I mean, the player side characters are mostly white-ish and the vast majority of the enemies seem like nignogs, this game is about mass murdering nignogs, that's not how woke anything works. It's cis gendered white piggus who should die in the woke world.

I just hope the game has robust enemy AI (at least as good as JA2 1.13). Games can be fun without super deep/hardcore mechanics, even though I hope they implement permanent stat damage on harder difficulties.

Fun fact: Calvin Barkmore from JA2 (this guy) was based upon Cleveland Blakemore, perhaps the most infamous of the Neolithic-Internet's lolcows, when he worked at Sir-Tech.

He doesn't deserve the lolcow label any more imo. Some of the crazy stories he told turned out true, and he eventually finished developing Grimoire (which was considered vaporware for decades). I don't blame people for thinking the guy is crazy though, usually we don't expect an elderly person to be a hardcore shitposter after all.

I mean they did do a showing fo the remake of Destroy All Humans 1 and after that sold well (specially on PC) they quickly went to remake the sequel, plus showing Desperado 3 which also got lots of love, so seems they do have faith in JA3

I mean, did the trailer for BIA make it that good? I recall even when they showed, most people were sold on the intro looking better than JA2's. But as far as gameplay I recall there being confused as to how it didn't look turn-based.

Its biggest problem was just that it wasn’t finished. Too many glaring balance issues showed the need for much more balancing and playtesting.

Hey, for real, have you tried playing it with the Realistic Rebalance mod? Might salavage whatever money you spent on it if you give it a try. I went from finding the game junk to a lot of fun once I used that.
