Jagged Alliance 3 announced - I guess this can be a general Jagged Alliance thread too

The first 12 hours of gameplay and it looks promising. It doesn't look like it has the complexity of JA2 1.17 but I'm sure several years after release, it will get there. Most of the mainstream TBS gaming community aren't turbo autists who need realistic logistic and disease management mechanics.

Everything in this preview needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The reviewer is a goober from IGN who admits he never played a Jagged Alliance game. It looks like all the elements in the unmodded original game are there. Dozens of mercs, IMP character customization, capturing mines for passive incomes, militia training, and merc interpersonal relationships.

It looks like JA3 will be releasing sooner than later. Also the best part of the preview is the reviewer complaining that the humor clashes with the gritty environment, highlighting he never played JA2.

Both articles complain about it being in the style of an 80s or 90s action movie. No shit! That's where the charm of the game comes from. Not every merc is going to be strong female character who don't need no man. That's what Buzz is there for. I also like that she invites the comparison of one of my favorite mercs as a "hoodlum" parody. I guess Ice sounded too black for her.

It looks like a decent successor to JA2 to me. Not 1.13, but those turbo autists need to realize that they're fucking mod isn't the actual JA2.

Weird that we're getting these previews and even full straight up gameplay videos but still no release date. Are they just going to drop this with zero fanfare or something?

This part of the article was pretty funny
But when you get the sense that nearly three quarters of them [the mercs] have probably been cancelled in a previous life and have opted for mercenary work because it's the only thing they've got going for them, none of them are terribly enjoyable hangs.

I have a feeling, yes they are just going to drop it with 0 fanfare. First, it gives them no deadline to get the game to a good release-able state. Second, the audience is smaller and more mature therefore patient. It's not like a new CoD dropping or a Fortnite skin. The last decent JA game was released 20 years ago and the average fan age is probably in their mid to late 30s. They aren't going to throw a shit fit if they got to wait another month or two. It's more than likely going to be one of those sleeper hit indy games and hopefully revitalizes the genre like Xcom did.

Dev Diary 6 - Combat, Part 1

It's pretty basic stuff as far as Jagged Alliance goes. Stances, AP, firing modes, bullet simulation. The big thing is them trying to explain their stance on no visible chance to hit which is what all the Xcom and 1.13 fans seem to be bitching about.

Also, they've announced it's releasing "this summer" and have announced a physical "tactical edition" of the game that comes with a gun case, media book, tactical belt, character cards, soundtrack, belt pouch and a pin. It's apparently limited to 750 copies.

Shit has a ridiculous MSRP at $129.99, and so far is only available from Amazon UK which people are saying means you have to pony up ridiculous shipping to get in the US, but I'm guessing this is just cause it was just announced or something.

I really don't get bitching about the "to hit chance" thing from both Xcom fans and 1.13 sperglords. Like, do you need that percentage thing THAT badly?

I think the devs explain it well and are right on the money.

I'm playing 1.13 finally, and having to hit chance just makes me see if I'm going to make a shot or not, and if I'm not, I just play super cautious and go back into cover.

I feel like the way it's been described for JA3 where they kind of like list pros and cons or whatever but don't give you an actual percentage sounds like the best middle ground between classic JA2 and 1.13 having a hit percentage.

It honestly just feels like 1.13 and XCOM spergs just want the same shit they've always had. The amount of dumb shit I've seen 1.13 fags complain about with this game has been ridiculous.

If the belt is any good and it's a real Cobra buckle, that's worth the ask right there. Pelican gun cases are well over $100, but I seriously doubt that's a Pelican.

I look forward to this with hesitant expectation.

Has there been anything mentioned about IMP or another form of merc creation? That was my favorite part, having a revolving door of hired help with my main guy pulling most of the weight and becoming a super soldier in the process.

That is something I wonder as well.
Best part of Silent Storm and XCOM 2, was creating your own soldier.

I saw IMP creation in a gameplay video some streamer did. It was a few weeks ago but I seem to recall it working the same way as in JA2 where you answer questions and pick out "portraits" (which end up being what your character looks like)

July 14th release date

It's nice that we can have a Japanese character actually say "this wirr nota rook good ona camara!" in 2023

As for IMP, it was featured in that lets play I posted but it's also shown in this trailer at the 4:13 mark so looks like it's definitely in.

Edit: It's not up for preorder on Steam yet, but it's being reported it is going to launch at $44.99. It also sounds like there will be mod support at launch.

It's now up for pre order on steam with the price reduced by 20% because they "didn't want to do pre order DLC" or something...

Not sure how I feel about that.

Well, it should be unlocking in about five minutes. I think nobody seems to give a crap about this game on here, but I'm laughing at all the 1.13 fags sneeding at the decent review scores it's been getting.

I'm probably going to have fun with it. Hope anyone else that tries it does as well.
