Xi Jinping is far more aggressive than previous Chinese rulers, in part because over 20 years of this Western policy toward China has let them build a country that can project real power globally and threaten the US, exactly as China's dreamed of since the Qing Dynasty realized they had to become like the West in an era where becoming like the West meant taking over the world.

I think a lot of it is because the Western oligarches realize the "Chinese democracy via globalism" mission is producing no results and because China is moving in on their turf. Bribing politicians in third world shitholes to approve some stupid mining/infrastructure deal is for whites and Jews, not chinks. On the political side, Trump's anti-CCP stance also polled well among both Republicans and Democrats and that's where you have even Beijing Biden making token anti-CCP statements and policies as well as things like a 2019 CCP-linked think tank report that named Governor Granny-Killer Cuomo (D-NY) as one of six American governors (and the only Democrat governor) deemed hostile to Chinese interests (I linked it in the Chinese Communist Party thread a few weeks ago if you're curious).

Chinese companies pay workers peanuts. Back ten-odd years ago, most of the companies that supplied tech gadgets with contracts from Microsoft, Apple, etc., paid their employees something like 50 cents an hour. In the mid-2010s, it rose to around $2 to $4 an hour.

Covid has mutated into a moderately bad cold. People are beginning to cotton on, hundreds of cases a day here with one or two deaths. Have the new osha rules been formalized yet? Biden has been pretty quiet about covid since he announced them and I have seen no bills just empty talk.

Last I heard they had not. Some Kiwi called OSHA posing as a business owner and said the OSHA people were confused and couldn't give any guidelines. Currently this appears to be a move to put pressure on businesses to mandate vaccines themselves, in which case they've been successful since I actually need to put my money where my mouth is and upload a vaccine passport through the very secure platform of Google Docs lest I be forced to take a test every week (or something like that). I also saw conflicting information from my company over this in the past few weeks probably based on OSHA's confusion but they appear to have settled on a "take the vaxx or get tested every week."

I'm not sure how any of this will work in practice, other than I'm counting on being able to upload an edit of an actual vaxx passport and none of the HR drones caring to investigate. AFAIK, they could cross-reference it against the state vaccine database, but I don't believe the state can't release that info to a company without permission of the person who uploaded it (or the person who's vaxx passport the info is based on). I'm guessing they won't bother checking to see if it's real or not since they're putting in the minimal effort as they do with everything else. Purely anecdotal/YMMV, but from what I've heard through the grapevine from acquaintances at various private companies in different sectors, since no official "rules" or "guidelines" were actually signed into place (and no new updates thus far), there's not much anyone can really do for now (or rather, be forced to do) besides wait and see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Think most called his bluff and want to do the very bare minimum of enforcement without any sort of liability issues or risk of being sued. Some have zero mandates besides the usual by signing this I agree not to come in the office if I'm feeing sick. Others just have some checkbox thing in their HR system that says by checking this I ""attest"" I have taken the jab (with no other sort of verification system), which employees are "highly encouraged" to fill out but otherwise is not required to keep your job.

My work (major retail company) sent out an email saying they're going to comply, starting with the corporate offices first but it will "take several months" to get even get started with the process. I think they're probably going to try to hold off as long as possible because they know people will quit.
