What are the Worst Casting Decisions that have ever been made?

Chris Pratt... as Super Mario. Chris Pratt.
That entire announcement was filled with hilariously bad casting decisions.
Chris Pratt as Mario; Jack Black as Bowser XD (For what it's worth, I think he's gonna kill it. But it's still a hilariously bad casting decision); Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong XXXXDDDDD What the actual fuck?; Keegan Michael Key as Toad (again I actually think he's going to turn in a decent performance, but he was still a retarded casting choice); and Kevin Michael Richardson is a fantastic voice actor... But he just... isn't Kamek. At all. I didn't recognize most of the other actors I saw in that announcement. Shitty washed up SNL guy as Cranky Kong seems like a spot on casting decision though.

I will defend Charlie Day as Luigi however. That's shit's just the best.

Obligatory Jake Lloyd

I feel bad for the dude. He got so much shit for that role, how much of it can be attributed to Lucas’ shitty directing or the fact he just wasn’t a very good actor overall. He wasn’t right for the role, it fucked him up mentally over the years because manchild faggots kept harassing him, shitty situation all around
I didn't even think Jake gave a bad performance. It was a case of the director being vague as shit and the script being a Star Wars script but mediocre. Because it was written in one draft. I don't think the prequels are bad but they didn't live up the hype. I feel bad for Jake and the guy who played Jar Jar. The fanboys ruined Star Wars i hope they enjoyed getting what they wanted with Disney Star Wars.

They should have Charles Martinet as the voice he is Mario. That is the first thing i think. Its like how David Hayter is the voice of Snake but at least when they replaced him with Kiefer he gave it his all. I hope Chris doesn't phone it in.

Val Kilmer as Batman
Michael Keaton as Batman
Ben Afleck as Batman
George Clooney as Batman
Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher
Ray Stevenson as The Punisher
Wow, you call out pretty much all of the live action batmen, including a few good ones (Batflek actually did a better job than I would have expected. He was just knecapped by playing the character in incredibly shit movies.) and yet you left out Christian "Cancer voice" Bale. The Dark Knight Rises was significantly *worse* than even the mediocre Batman Forever if you ask me, and it was even *almost* as bad as Batman and Robin. Even the *good* Bale films barely deserve to be talked about in the same conversation as the Keaton films.

John Travolta & Forrest Whittaker in Battlefield Earth. They could've convincingly used any number of actors who played Klingons.

And speaking of Whittaker....
Worst casting: Forrest Whittaker in anything.
He was amusingly appropriate as a 'Nam conscript in Platoon, but surprisingly good as Idi Amin in Last King of Scotland.

I was so hyped about a movie adaption that showcases the rich story and lore of the Super Mario games but these FUCKERS just had to RUIN it!!!!
Literally everyone was waiting to see a Mario, that's faithful to the source material, jumping on Goombas on the big screen.

I really like Charles Martinet, as I think most people who have played any Mario game in the past 25 years do... but I can kind of understand why Nintendo wouldn't be so willing to trust the guy who has really only had to give them random voice clips like "bing bing wahoo" and "so long gay Bowser" for 25 years or so, to voice the lead character in their multi-million dollar animated movie. Actually two of the main characters, because he would have obviously also had to voice Luigi as well.

Come to think about it, if there ends up being a sequel that stars Wario and possibly also (but probably not XD) Waluigi, Martinet would have also had to voice him (/them) as well. Let's be honest, all 4 of those characters sound pretty much identical when Martinet is playing them, just pitched slightly different. That works perfectly fine in video game, but maybe not so much in a 90+ minute movie with actual dialogue.

This may have also been an attempt to appeal to the normies. Mario is one of the most recognizable characters on the planet. I 100% believe that if I showed my (non-gamer) parents a picture of him, they would be able to tell me who he was.
I do not for a moment believe that they would be able to tell me... anybody who has voiced Mario over the years. My dad is an old-school wrestling fan, he *might* say Captain Lou Albano. Even if he did though, he would still be functionally wrong for this example; neither of them would say Charles Martinet.. I don't even know for a fact that they've ever heard Mario speak before. But I do actually know for a fact that they both know who Chris Pratt is.

With all of that said, Chris Pratt was an embarrassingly shitty choice as a replacement for Martinet's Mario.

I still stand by Charlie Day as Luigi though.

Charles Martinet, outside Nintendo he has done full voice characters, such as Orvus in Ratchet and Clank - A Crack in Time, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as Paarthurnax, among a few others.

Also clips like the one below where he talks, I think he could do the full movie as Mario, but as Luigi and the others that would be too much. But I feel like his Mario's voice for better or worse, has reached Mickey Mouse levels iconic, you can change the actor but can't go too far away from what the voice sounds like.

It's pretty clear the studio cast people based more on fame rather than if they fit the role. Which pretty dumb, because having random famous people in animated movies never helps the box office of the movie, Kids don't give a shit about who voices the new Disney princesses nor do parents, kids care more about the characters themself. The break out character from illumination own movies is the one not voice by anyone famous those Minions.

But even if you want to hire famous people could have done a much better casting job than this, hell could see some of the actors they did get in different roles such as Jack Black as Funky Kong. Also got to question the decision to have Donkey Kong talk at all.

Charles is Mario in my eyes. Then again i did have to look him up because no one knows him because he is a voice actor. I think the movie will be shit due to the people making it make shit movies. Mario as a character and story doesn't work because he is not a complex character and franchise. I imagine it'll be woke trash because you can't have a princess needing to be saved in the modern age.
But I feel like his Mario's voice for better or worse,
They have no excuse they can have other actors play the other Mario voices but you have to have Charles play Mario. The first thing i think when i think Mario is bing bing wahoo doh. They have no excuse other than wanting to fill it with celebs even at the cost of the iconic voice people immediately think of.

I'm not trying to shit on Martinet. I think he did a great job as Mario, and I'm sure he did a great job in all of those other things that I didn't even know he did. I'm just saying, I can understand why Nintendo is looking for a more high-profile name to voice their most high-profile character, in a multi-million dollar movie. And yeah, I think Chris Pratt was a terrible choice for Mario, and I already laughed at several other shitty casting choices that they made.

I still stand by Charlie Day as Luigi.

That was Laurence Fishburne.

Apparently Ben Platt is getting absolutely trashed for reprising his Broadway role in the movie version of Dear Evan Hansen, a musical about a sociopathic teen who makes his friend’s suicide all about himself (bizarrely it was a huge stage hit).

Platt looks fucking ancient at 27 playing a 15-16 year old. But because his daddy produced both the play and the movie, he got to keep his lead role:

Inspector Gadget.
I came into this thread to say the exact same thing. To this very day I'll never truly understand why the fuck they cast a short, softly-spoken, effeminate manlet like Matthew Broderick play Gadget. When I first saw the commercials for the live action film back in the day, I seriously thought it was a joke.

Surely they could have gotten someone taller and sillier, and who could nail down the Don Adams voice.
