It's just worth pointing out again that "being mentally ill" isn't a cop-out to criminal offenses. They'd have to prove that the individual was mentally incapable of understanding what they were doing at the exact time the criminal act occured (e.x. They'd have to prove that Chris thought he was boning Rosechu instead of Barb or something like that).

There are plenty of people who've been diagnosed during the criminal process as mentally ill (e.x. Charles Manson) but they still went to prison on the basis of their actions.

Chris isn't smart enough to try for an insanity plea. He doesn't even know how the courts work. His only debating tactic is to shout the contrary to whoever his opponent is, so he's hoping Heilberg will just keep saying "No he didn't rape his mom" in court until the judge relents.

Chris really does believe that he's a matyr of some sort, going through stress and torture from the state for the innocent acts of fucking his demented mother and stealing her money. He's insane, and no one should ascribe any logic to his actions.

To people saying he's trying to get an insanity plea: this bullshit won't have you deemed legally insane. All that matters for legally insane is you didn't have the capacity to know what you did was wrong at the time. At the same time I can't see this ending in any other way than Chris locked up in some kind of psyche facility.
