I honestly want to place majority blame on the Directors and not solely on Ina. While she could have reviewed the lines herself and decided for herself that they sounded phoned-in, I wonder what went through the Director's mind when they reviewed the audio clips. Did they understand English fluently, or is English their second language? Do they know how well-acted English Voiceovers sound, or did they only care about if the line was read with the correct meaning?

A competent English director would have asked to re-read the lines. "They don't sound convincing, I need you to put yourself in the situation. Gura mocked you for your small chest. You are greatly offended by this, and you begin to chase after her with the intention of hurting her for what she's said. You yell out to her in anger. Sell the scene!"

That's what a Director is for, to make sure that the overall voice acting is where it needs to be to complete the vision of the project. I think this is where the Umisea skits fell short for me, personally.
And I don't think Ina was the only one that had shortcomings in this area because of it.

Does anyone here know the story of why the very first Resident Evil game's dialogue was so terribly godawful? It's because the Japanese Capcom idiots separately sent all the voice actors Excel spreadsheets of all the game's lines and basically said "Here, please record all these lines". They then patchworked the audio tracks together like a puzzle. The result is the 'Jill sandwich' voice acting of legend. None of the actors even voiced in the same room, so everything sounded stiff and wooden. They've gotten a bit better since then.

I mean, seriously: how does Ina fuck up voice acting...Ina? I'm not blaming her. I suspect that the director sucked, I'm not blaming her at all. Gura sounded weird in that video at times too, and she's been an actual voice actor for a while. Perhaps it was the first time the Japanese Holo video creator team was working directly with the EN talents, and they simply can't tell good English voice acting from bad? Who even knows.

Ina should bonk the editors. All of them.

They weren't directed. According to Gura, they were just sent the clips with Marine and Aqua's JP lines already recorded and their EN lines to read and they just did it. Gura having some voice-acting experience did record several takes (Ina could've done this too but we never got any info if she did). Now, we don't know if they got any follow-ups for revisions for this but if this purely came from the JP side, chances are it's just a JP video editor putting it all together.

Yeah, it was pretty similar to this.

As others have said, you can definitely tell that Ina and Sana are friends. This is the most comfortable and chatty I've ever seen Ina in a collab.
And the sassiest for that matter. I'd describe her as reserved, normally, but the gloves were off for this (playfully of course).

Their long term close friendship was so obvious through the banter, that if we hadn't already known they were friends, rrats would be flying around about it.
In fact, near the beginning they tried to throw in a little kayfabe about their characters being old friends and recently reunited, so they probably knew how obvious it was going to be to everyone.

I want to see what the discussion looks like on places like reddit where they don't know the roommate info (well, many there obviously know it but aren't allowed to talk about it to the ones that don't).

Surely 'Hololive' is the unit and the generations are the sub-units?
Let use Lovelive as basic for the sake of argument, generation would be Muse, Aqours, etc.

sub unit would be Guilty Kiss (from Aqours), or Bibi (from muse).

if Hololive really goes for subunit production then Yagoo is finally playing idolm@ster or Lovelive right now. If they get super success they will pioneer next Gen of 2D Net idols. Not to mention how promotion collab opportunities from other like the curry promotion with Subaru, Aqua and Pekora (duck, onion and carrot). With China market and entertainment turns shit show (more restriction on gaming and Anime is being pushed by emperor Xi just now)

This will make more JP companies go back and focus more to internal promotions and other market other than China so it will surely be busy for Vtubers for sure. Ironically this will make next HoloJP and EN generations application extremely competitive so a lot of drama that us degenerate kiwi will love.

And this is why the beauty of this shit hole is so wonderful, because anything goes here. But I 100% agree, if we can all tell how obvious it is, I wonder what it like in a perspective of someone who knows jack and sees it all.

Bunny Man is pretty much the perfect choice for "we'll-fuck-around-while-we-basically-just-do-a-zatsudan" stream.

EDIT: You can really tell that Ina and Sana are old friends by the way they're just naturally messing around and trash-talking each other in this stream. Ina's also being more verbose and silly than usual. Such a natural, wholesome pairing.
It was pretty funny. Coffee debate because Ina waters down coffee and Sana is a sweet tooth. Sana mentioning horse-birthing and tit birds with no context. "Just die"-Ina 2021.
Here's the vod. Because stream link wasn't posted I guess

Not just comfortable & chatty, but also downright aggressive. Definitely not the kind of soft, playful approach she takes with the other Holomems.
Is it me or Ina seems to get along the best with most of Council?
I guess it makes sense, Sana and Ina go way back and Mumei is a self proclaimed former Takodachi, and the rrat just bounces off everyone

Actually, if we take example from AKB48.
There is the AKB48 (also SKE48, HKT48, etc) as the Group.
There are Generations.
There are Teams.
There are Sub-Units.

Practically, Generations don't matter. Just to indicate the order of debut/batch of audition.
Team member changed & swapped regularly. Everyone is a part of a team, except when they are new.
Sub-Units has less number of member than a Team and has fixed member. Not everyone is member of a sub-unit.

No term Unit used. IMO, Team is the Unit here. Hierarchically speaking unit should be below the Group.

In Hololive, I think the one closest to a Unit is the generations or the branches. But I think branches is the Groups.
Sub-Units would be Umisea, FAMS, SMOK, etc.

Did Hololive ever officially call Umisea a Sub-Unit? I honestly don't know.

They didn't call it such, no.

To be honest, though, UmiSea and other sub-units are the same size as Generations. I don't know how generations work in AKB, but Hololive do have generation songs, albums, collaborations, etc, so there's no real distinction between how corporate handle their release and how they handled UmiSea. The only difference was that this one was comprised of established members.

Things like SMOK and HoloTori are, by Kiara's own words, now 'unofficial groups' since UmiSea drew a line in the sand, and they don't formally produce any content beyond gaming collabs. And as much as I loathe to align myself with Kiara, she is kind of right that it's not really appropriate to consider UmiSea and HoloTori the same thing anymore.

So if I was personally identifying its components, I would describe it as:
• Hololive = Name of the idol unit.
• Generations = Sub-units (HoloMyth, HoloFantasy, etc.)
• UmiSea = Sub-unit (Produces music)
• SMOK/HoloTori/Bakatare etc. = Unofficial/Casual groups.

I was wondering how far back they went. Idk how long they're been friends (definitely several years at least), but they've known each other for nearly a decade. So they're clearly very close long-term friends. Nice to see them connect through HoloLive. https://twitter.com/namgoreng/status/267121223715139585 https://twitter.com/search?q=(from:namgoreng) (to:wooperfuri)&src=typed_query&f=live https://twitter.com/search?q=(from:wooperfuri) (to:namgoreng)&src=typed_query&f=live

There's probably more interactions that don't show up as in Oct 2020 Sana deleted 71.5k tweets. https://socialblade.com/twitter/user/namgoreng/monthly

Around the same time Ina deleted 39k, https://socialblade.com/twitter/user/wooperfuri/monthly
Screenshot 2021-09-25 202415.png

Deleted massive amounts of tweets at the same time, interesting.

I cannot believe I'm engaging in a Love Live discussion here of all places but this thread has suffered more dire discussions in recent memory.

In the context of Love Live: Muse and Aquors would be the unit because that holistically covers all the musicians in it. The sub-units would be Nico/Maki, Eri/Nozomi etc as they produced music themselves as part of Muse. Love Live is the name of the competition they participate in. These groups were too small to have generations.

ANYWAY. UmiSea is a corporate decision but I don't think it's the first phase of some 5D chess. It was just a Sub-unit of some of the company's heavy-hitters. I don't think they are willing to throw resources at many different concoctions and give them all anime, music, logos and branding etc or they'll just capitulate. The buzz behind this one fizzled out immediately and it had fucking Gura and Aqua in it. I can't imagine anyone is chomping at the bit for more UmiSea even if you enjoyed what you got.

I mention this because it would mean that Hololive Gen 5 is the first wave/generation Tamaki has completely skipped as long as I can remember her being active.

The reason for this is likely because of her close on-stream friendship with Oda Nobuhime (Polka's past life). It's something a lot of people wanted to see but this kind of makes me feel like it won't come to be — at least not anytime soon.

So I thought on past instances of JP V-Tubers engaging with people they used to before they reincarnated, and the only instance I could think of was Nishizono Chigusa collabing with Matsuri.
Polka did a couple of cover songs with Tenjin Kotone last month, so maybe a collab with Tamaki isn't completely out of the question (but still seems pretty unlikely at this point)

(one of their past life collabs for reference)

I can't stay up another 1 hour 20 mins for the hamster's unarchived karaoke because it'll fuck up my already shit sleeping pattern, but I also don't want to rely on clips to see my oshi at work. Hopefully somebody archives it where I don't need to download, since I'm not comfortable doing that. She's pushed the stream back 30 minutes because she overslept according to her twitter: the twitter post

Set to start in 20 mins if anybody wants to catch it.

I'm still reeling from 'Poggers Ocean' and 'Hydrodynamic is MY term!' being completely unironic lines in a song with Camellia's name attached to it. I'm not strong enough to face whatever the fuck they may make Kiara say. I can't do it.
How come people that both Holo and Niji hire for global songs seem this dogshit at lyrics and such? Black Out wasn't at that level, sure, but it's still basically gibberish with unnecessary minimal Japanese shoved in. No idea what sort of storytelling Ryushen did because that didn't really make any sense either. Is this all a matter of like, boomer business japs going "hey kids these days like the word poggers, free money if we use it", or "Let's just randomly add in Japanese words for no reason, we use English loan words nonstop and everyone here thinks they're cool, so it totally won't sound out of place to do the opposite"?

I had assumed the endurance minecraft stream would pop back up once Bae had woken up, but she just started her unarchived karaoke and it's still not back, so I have no idea now. I won't be watching it so if one of y'all do and she mentions the poofed stream, let us know.

She said she tried to trim out the accidental reveal, but youtube doesn't let you do edits to videos beyond a certain length, so she had to leave it privated.
