Interesting thread. I've been lurking the forum for a few months, and I thought I'd sign up and share some thoughts and then ask a question.
As others have mentioned in this thread, I too have been getting by at the shops by flashing a screenshot of the one and only time I used the QR check in system, and like most, I fiddle with my phone at the entrance and walk in. A few over zealous indian or mystery meat security guards have asked to see the green tick, and the screenshot trick works, but most don't care for the most part provided it looks like you're doing "the right thing". I'm not so sure how succesful this will be in future as we move to the vaccine passport system.
I don't give a fuck about going to the pub, restaurants or a football gay pride match, but more concerning is trying to see a GP for something simple. I suspect many doctors and specialists will flat out refuse to see you and the receptionists will act as the gateway keepers so that if something minor such as a throat infection turns into something serious because you couldn't see a doctor for antibiotics, the GP can just deny all responsibility because they never saw you in the first place.
I know some vaccinated boomers who do not have a smart phone, and they've been given a card, so editing the PDF you get from Medicare and printing it out isn't going to cut it even though the only data on the PDF about the shot is
- Date given (just date, no time),
- Immunisation (COVID-19)
- Brand name given (Pfizer Comirnaty)
I'm not even antivaxx, I've had the hep A/B shots in recent years due to travelling to some dubious locations, but the risk/reward for the covid19 vaccination doesn't seem to add up for someone like me - relatively young, no underlying health problems, had the flu twice before and been fine. Sure, it might kill me, but not likely especially given all the cases in western Sydney where many of the young ethnics there are obese etc etc. Plus, if you take the first shot, you're essentially signing up for an unknown number of booster shots in future, just looking at what's happening in Israel tells me that Australia will probably be much worse when it comes to this.
I was already putting plans into motion to leave Australia (born here but dual citizen to a country not doing this insane shit), but now I don't even know how the fuck I'm going to leave. I don't want to apply for an exemption to leave because I'm not vaccinated, and not going to take the vaccine, and I don't want to be put on any government list and the airlines may not even allow me to fly. I'm guessing faking your vaccine status might work domestically, but it's not likely to work when it comes to getting out of the control. Do you guys think they may relax the rules in future or will most airlines just flatout refuse to entertain the idea of allowing you onto their planes? How the fuck is this going to work with airliners from countries without this draconian bullshit? I contacted the embassy with these questions and they didn't even fucking reply, so no hope there. I'm actually entertaining the idea of doing a Mokbel and attempt to leave by boat.
Australia has been on the downslide for a very long time, I'm just pissed that I may actually now be stuck unless I roll up my sleeve. The utter failure of the tradie protests pretty much shows the government that they can do whatever the fuck they want and we have zero recourse.
