Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

So California Kiwis, tell me, what's the buzz on California's brain drain?

Income the jokes about Cali being braindead, but there are still people on the ground floor who are needed to keep shit running. Like for example, are people leaving Silicon Valley for other states?

Welp, finally got an email at my job at [giant multi-national company] about the vaccine. Mostly just a bunch of "safe and effective!" copypasta from the CDC's website. CEO finishes the email with an Oct 23 deadline to send in pictures of our vax cards.

I told my supervisor the brass have 'til Oct 23 to go fuck themselves. I'm coming in for my shift on Oct 24 unvaccinated and if the boss is that offended, he can come down here and fire me, himself.

It's no longer about health concerns or moral arguments for me. It's about not letting some desk jockey faggot threaten me into doing something I don't want to do.

yeah for a while I just didn't care about getting one like I don't care about any seasonal bug shots, but now I'm refusing just out of sheer cussedness

Yeah, the tech companies have been setting up shop in the Texas Triangle slowly but surely, I have a couple of acquaintances who went out to Austin to work for them in the past couple of years. I don't know if I'd call it a full blown exodus yet since Big Tech is still very much alive in the Bay Area and the inertia from them will keep CA lurching on for some time.

Welcome to the land of spite, brothers.

Its been slow but steady. A lot of Hollywood production has moved to Georgia for similar cost reasons. And as much as we hate Hollywood and its CONSOOMING here, it does employ a lot of people, often highly technical in nature such as electricians and other set builders.

A lot of people don't realize this but there's quite a bit of tech and construction involved in the arts. Art trades, if you will.

Yep. Immigration has been a non-starter for the Dems. The Hispanic border communities have been shifting red for a while before going deep crimson for Trump since they really want Latin America's troubles to stay in Latin America, and a lot of blacks are waking up to the fact they're the target for replacement, not whites. Some of you may find that hard to believe, but blacks could hold the Democrat party hostage if they ever felt like it. If roughly 10% or so permanently switch sides, the Dems as a national party are finished. That's dangerous ground for anyone, hence the desperation moves to shore up support with stuff like CRT and the like.

White House confirms Biden's opposition to changing Senate filibuster rules in order to raise debt ceiling

Not even the threat of an impending US recession can change President Joe Biden's mind when it comes to the filibuster. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed Tuesday that the president has not altered his stance on the oft-debated Senate procedure. Biden still opposes changing the rules, even to pass a bill that raises or suspends the debt ceiling. The president's renewed opposition comes as Democrats face their toughest week in Congress since Biden's inauguration. The party is running out of time and options to address the approaching deadline on the country's debt ceiling and stopgap funding, while Republicans actively torpedo their attempts.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Tuesday warned that her agency could run out of money by mid-October, sending the US economy into chaos and triggering a default on the government's debt. Democrats' attempts to deal with the limit thus far have all been blocked by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's GOP. He has repeatedly said that Democrats should raise the ceiling alone, without his party's help, all the while, voting against their efforts to do so. Last week, the House passed a bill aimed at funding the government past September 30, which included a provision that would increase the limit on how much the US can borrow to pay its bills, but the measure failed in the Senate on Monday, when the bill failed to clear the filibuster's 60-vote threshold to end debate.

Then, on Tuesday, Democrats tried to pass a debt ceiling increase by a simple majority vote through unanimous consent, but McConnell blocked their attempt to do so, yet again, further pushing the country toward default. Bills that raise or suspend the debt ceiling are currently subject to filibuster rules in the Senate, but a remaining option for desperate Democrats could be to change the rules of the procedure so that a relevant bill would no longer be beholden to the 60-vote threshold. Lawmakers throughout history have made similar adjustments to confirm judicial nominees and cabinet officials. But doing so would require all 50 Senate Democrats' support, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris' seal of approval, meaning Biden's reaffirmed opposition to doing so almost certainly renders the possibility a non-option.

According to Politico, Biden has conferred with Democratic leadership, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer regarding the party's approach to the approaching deadline, but is publicly deferring to Congress on how to avoid the crisis. The outlet reported that on Monday, Pelosi, Schumer, and Biden discussed possibly raising the debt limit through budget reconciliation, which White House officials had been hoping to avoid.

FILIBUSTER BAD, EVEN IF IT'D SAVE OUR ASSES.

Make less profit.

This always annoys me when I see the line of thinking "we can't increase minimum wage because companies will charge and more and increase inflation!!". Instead of being a corporate cock-sucker, we could limit the profit that companies could make. Does Amazon need 1 trillion dollars? How about 500 Billion (still an incredible amount of money) and the other 500 billion is spread between the work force?
Regulation would be much better if it focused on keeping things decentralized/fighting monopolies rather than going after companies once they reach an arbitrary number. Decentralizing the government itself, specifically knee-capping federal executive agencies, would go along way to do this on its own. Neither one of those things is going to happen because the people in control have guns to everyone's heads.
