Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Reminds me of Korea about 45 years ago. We were riding in the second-class car. At train stops beggars would get on, come through the cars with their cups, and beg.
They still did that as of 2015. You'd see old people selling garbage like flimsy toys or gadgets that were likely homeless bums. They also have these train cars that are "standing room only" but full of lazy bums laying on the dirty ground.

**Coney. It’s Coney, you autists.

Literally echoes of that time in 1985 when they dragged a gaunt Konstantin Chernenko to a ballot box to vote in view of TV cameras when he was weeks away from death. They didn’t do this at a polling place, however. The background you see in that footage was a “set” constructed in a room at the hospital his haggard ass lay dying in. This has a similar vibe.
I was copying the previous user, you're the autist for caring about spelling, and I normally only use the last name for justices.

Manchin's back, and as expected no progress was made by Biden (tweet)

I got high enough and forgot the futility of it long enough to write him today and encourage him to stand firm on not removing the filibuster. I still know enough folk up there that Im gonna try and get them to do the same. I figure trying to convince him not to support the bill itself is a nonstarter because he's a dem and he wants some of the shit in it, but if he can be persuaded to actually stand up to the progs on the filibuster, at least that's something and may prevent the spending spree from passing anyway.

I want to know why the hell they fired all the medical staff for being unvaxxed and then brought in equally unvaxxed help from the third world?

Laughing so hard I had to excuse myself from my office. This is a joke, right? This is a practical joke. If the authors are serious and their arguments are supported by democrats by and large…they are completely flailing. Leaning on this neck albatross for anything other than the YASSKWEENNONWHITEVAGINAHAVER factor reeks of pure desperation.

These people can’t grasp that there was a fucking reason behind her being the first primary dropout without a single delegate, and that her own record of abject failure as VP is partly why she’s kept in the shadows. But sure, she’s a real asset to Republicans, anyway.

edit: spelling
I am curious to see how much worse or even slightly better she could be then Joe. So when he goes to the pie in the sky, people could be slightly interested. but as to actual voting? HELLLLL no.

it seems like a big deal for anybody on NBC to admit this.

She's losing it. Almost seems like she's catching up to biden with the way she's speaking.

So California Kiwis, tell me, what's the buzz on California's brain drain?

Income the jokes about Cali being braindead, but there are still people on the ground floor who are needed to keep shit running. Like for example, are people leaving Silicon Valley for other states?

IMO it’s quite hard to get a read on this question. Recent data shows that middle income people are leaving the state, but high income people are still coming. So I assume it will go more and more Brazil, split between poor and service class people, and very rich people, with nothing in between. But it’s hard to say what that means for the state… I guess people just keep coming, although growth has slowed. It’s so expensive, crowded and dysfunctional in California’s big cities that it honestly really blows me away that people still want to move there.

Anecdotally, I know a solid handful of middle to high income professionals in tech and entertainment who left the state over the pandemic, and many more who talked about it and didn’t do it. Even more anecdotally, I recently talked to a realtor in a major metro in the SE who told me that about 80% of her clients over the past year were from NY, LA, and Boston, and she’s never moved so many houses in a year. So I do think that people get sick of these cities and leave, but it also seems like there are always others standing by to take their place? I’ll be curious to see what things are like in a decade (if the country lasts that long.)

I do love some of the takes on twitter. "We need a strong Democrat to primary Manchin!" Yeah go and do that in a state where Trump won every county...twice.
:story:
Honestly that would be funny to see

1. Manchin destroys the primary easily.

2. The primary beats Manchin only to lose in a blowout in general senate election.

Imagine trying to fulfill the "Obama agenda" with both a split Senate and narrowly divided House, and JOE FREAKING BIDEN at the helm.

Didn't Obama once say something about it being a third term for him? He should have listened to his own words because he's clearly underestimated Joe's ability to fuck things up.

She knows she's slipping, she wants out of politics before that becomes her epitaph.

Addendum: More than just her too, Joe Biden's decline and the revelations of how badly he has fucked his legacy is making a lot of older politicians, those who have not already lost it that is, suddenly aware of what dementia can do to your legacy. Biden's legacy is ruined, nothing else he did will ever be remembered, only the dementia.

Here in Wisconsin, there has been a lot more movement among both sides of the aisle, a lot more securing successors and squaring away loose ends. A lot more consideration for what comes after them.

Yeah, they're not going to get a Democrat senator elected in West Virginia who's to the left of Manchin.

Their threats to primary him are desperate, empty and doomed for utter failure.

Which is what they fear most. He's angling increasingly for a governor run again. He has 6 years to lock that in, but the extreme push on him from the Democrats in the Senate is only making that more and more likely. If he becomes governor, or merely just runs, that seat goes Red and likely stays red in perpetuity.

Genuine question, why do West Virginians vote for Manchin in such large margins anyway? He's obviously better than every other Democratic senator and probably a fair amount of Republican ones but he's still a Democrat that more often than not votes with them (just not for the most insane bullshit they pass) in a state that's now blood red.

This is why I don't see him caving on the 3.5 trillion dollar reconciliation bill, unless it is gutted down to the 1-1.5 trillion range and that would anger the progressive and they would just kill it out of spite.

Because don't fix what isn't broken. He's personable, does respond back to messages, doesn't vote for the most woke shit, and stunts like this where he's a big roadblock to the left ensure that he gets to stay in. Simply put, while he doesn't really match their politics completely, he has done nothing to piss away his goodwill.

Democrats honestly believe that immigrants have more rights than Americans because they are less privileged.

I may bring up the fact that San Diego reopened in person schooling ONLY to non-Americans as an example once per week for the rest of my life, that's how much it pissed me off.

And in doing so ensured that any federal-level lawsuit against it has ample evidence of unfair treatment. Short-sighted stupid bullshit.

It pisses me off for how badly it's planned.

From the 1930s until Bush in 2000, West Virginia was blue as blue could get. Manchin is kind of seen as the last vestige of the true Democrat Party before the party abandoned them and flew off a cliff. You see this a lot in states like North Carolina where old school Democrats will vote Republican.
