They found god, a reason to forgive those who hurt them, or maybe just a reason why life isn’t so shit like music or art, whatever. So, personally, I believe almost anyone can be redeemed. Except pedophiles. That’s why those shows are so popular, although I also hold the same opinion, they’re just about as cringe as watching someone post a video of themselves giving the homeless money or food. Why do you need clout for supposedly being a good person?

I don’t think there’s redemption for pedophiles. I think they’re born with it, and I’m sure for some it’s like a cancer of pervasive thoughts they wish would go away so they could live a normal life. But, I don’t believe it ever goes away until they’re dead.

JOHN HIGHFIELD: Well overnight, scientists in the United States have reported what is probably one of the most interesting cases in the world recently. The first case of paedophilia with a brain tumour as its probable cause.

In a presentation to the American Neurological Association, the scientists described how an egg-sized tumour in the brain caused sudden and controlled paedophilia in a 40-year-old school teacher.

Once the tumour in the right lobe of the orbifrontal cortex was removed, the man's new sexual obsessions disappeared.

In Brisbane, Peter McCutcheon reports.

PETER McCUTCHEON: Neurologists Russell Swerdlow and Jeffrey Burns from the University of Virginia described the case study as "the neurology of morality". In an article in the New Scientist magazine, the researchers say the man felt his behaviour was unacceptable but in his words, "the pleasure principle overrode his restraint".

Unlike most paedophile cases, the man had a normal history until relatively recently. He suddenly began visiting child pornography websites and soliciting prostitutes. His wife left him and he was convicted on charges of child molestation.

Brain scans, however later revealed a large tumour. Within seven months of its removal, the man successfully completed a treatment program and returned to normal life.

Sometime later he began collecting child pornography again and sure enough another scan revealed the tumour was growing back. It was removed a second time and his behaviour disappeared.

The researchers argue that doctors should consider brain tumours as the reason why some people become sex offenders.

Director of the Mental Health Research Institute of Victoria, Professor David Copolov, said the finding didn't surprise him as the frontal cortex of the brain is often associated with inhibiting behaviour. He says the finding raises interesting questions of the boundaries between morality and mental health.

DAVID COPOLOV: Basically the legal profession and the medical profession tend to take different perspectives on it. The legal profession expects us all to have control over our behaviour and there are certain criteria for, for that, a fairly strict criteria.

Whereas we in medicine tend to understand things in terms of causal relationships and take a different view about the relationship between, for example, abnormalities of the brain and behaviour.

In fact, a very important study showed that a significant proportion of young offenders on death row in the United States had a significant history of either brain damage or abuse as children. And therefore one could say that there are certainly strong exonerating circumstances behind their own behaviour.

I find that it helps to think of Lucas as an alien entity wearing a person suit.


Really though, what you are pointing out about his facial expressions is actually a decently documented phenomena that has been the subject of longitudinal studies using modern software and something called "facial action coding system". Individuals who suffer from psychotic disorders like schizophrenia or mood disorders like bipolar, but don't manage their illness eventually start to suffer declines in their cognition and their ability to socialize. This is attributed to the social isolation they experience, which causes their conscious and unconscious social skills to atrophy. They basically forget how to be around other people and frequently miss social cues that socialized people can easily recognize and respond to.

If this decline continues long enough, demonstrating your mood, intentions, or state of mind, through context appropriate facial expressions becomes very difficult. This is why just about every adult in the world can see a very mentally ill person coming from a mile away. They have strange gaits, their facial expressions seem either off-putting or incredibly fake, their hygiene sucks, and so on.

@klickitat . I love the intro and outro to your videos, I do. But I do think it would be cool if in the outro you included the clip of Lucas saying "I am the cow". This was from some video a ways back of Lucas talking about how he is old and plenty good. He is comparing himself to the young Gen Z guys. He states in the video "You are the calf and I am.....the....cow." It was almost a moment of self reflection. Would go well after the clip of him being interested in young males.
