I can: Bonnie doesn't seem that deep. He is entitled to mutliple relationships because he is poly and he cannot change that, much like how he is trans and how he is plural. For Sky to say something invalidating and an attack on his identity as well as others is fucking unacceptable, he's going to run away for some healing time.

Basically he's entitled and doesn't care about Sky's feelings if Sky hurts HIS feelings. Sky became the enemy in two smooth moves: invalidating Alyssa's disabilities and then invalidating plurality in general. Bonnie has the emotional maturity of a child still.

I am old, and this is cranky, because I, indeed, happen to be old and cranky:

DID is not real. There is, very plainly, no such thing.

There is no disorder that causes someone to "fracture" or "splinter" into multiple, task-specific sub-personas. It is "real" only in the sense that someone can be induced to believe that it is real, and that they have such a thing, through profound psychiatric abuse.

The most charitable possibility is that DID is a culture-bound disorder that only afflicts the west, like Dhat in the Indian subcontinent, Koro in China, and so on. I am of the opinion it does not deserve even that level of regard. It is a thing that did not exist outside of America until American-trained practitioners began to diagnose it. It is not a coincidence that the most vocal proponents for DID are, also, the most vocal proponents for other forms of abusive nonsense, such as 'recovered memories' and 'Satanic abuse.' No one has DID until they are under the care of a practitioner who believes in DID.

Twenty years ago, it was being consigned to history as a particularly embarrassing example of what happened as the science of the human mind was being codified. Today, it is one of the many abominations that a generation of idiots has chosen to dig out from the trash.

I'd actually like to push back on this slightly. I took some psych classes in college, but that's it. So, don't take anything I say too seriously. I think DID is real, but it's nothing like these people depict it.

DID is not having multiple personalities or “alters.” It's literally in the name: dissociative identity disorder.

You check out of reality entirely. If you're capable of doing anything in that state, it's mundane activities that you do regularly and require no real thought: washing dishes, taking a shower, vacuuming, etc. Movements are robotic, and you're not carrying on any conversation. That is, if you aren't just sitting totally still and sporting a thousand-yard stare. Either way, you won't remember anything.

Maybe you were severely beaten and screamed at as a child, which might mean loud voices or physical pain cause you to dissociate. If you were locked in a soundproof closet for prolonged periods as punishment, then silence will cause you to dissociate.

This isn't something that happens because mommy raised her voice sometimes or daddy spanked you once or twice. We're talking severe and prolonged trauma at the level that gets children completely removed from the custody of their mothers.

Like I said, there's no switching to “alters.” With abuse this bad, the only way the brain can cope is to shut the fuck down.

Also, as we're all very aware, there's no hard science on this. We're all just tossing out ideas and speculating. So, again, don't take what I say too seriously.

I asked a friend who has multiple degrees in this and related fields, and they pretty firmly agreed with what you said. DID is a real thing, but more in the zoned-out, internally-retreating way. Split personalities like these freaks larp as is not a thing.
