This is so sad. No passion left here. Just a way to pay the bills.

What James meant to say was he was too busy doing his kids homework to make a full length feature film.
What James meant to say was he was gonna make another full length feature film, but wikipedia has yet to publish the script for him.
What James meant to say was he was too busy doing long form ads for Justins company, to his audience of youtube influencer hopefuls, to do a full length feature film.
What James meant to say was Although Rolfe has not ruled out the possibility of a sequel to the film, which would have involved the lost Swordquest treasures, he regards it as highly unlikely due to the amount of time spent developing and filming the Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie and his focus on other film projects.[32]

I wouldn't exactly consider James a cow on his own, and its easy to blame all the recent failures on Screenwave (which is a very likely case with the whole plagiarism thing), but the fact he refuses to do anything about it, combined with his lack of communication with the fans and inability to address criticism, does teeter him into cow territory.

It's surprising to see him hold out from having his thread enter a lolcow board for so long, but its just something some of us will just have to accept, like it or not.

A real saving grace at this point would be for them to put out another good AVGN episode (not a bad possibility with the upcoming C64 Halloween episode, and not to mention the upcoming 200th episode as well), but even then I think the stain of recent events won't fade away for a long while.
I said a few weeks ago when the "Behind the Scenes" video was released that James isn't necessarily a cow yet. The problem is he's becoming one. We're seeing all of the red flags we've seen before with all these other fallen YouTubers. He lacks the passion he once had, he wants out but doesn't want to give up the career, he's starting to lose it with his fans bashing him more and more. Pretty seen he's going to be sperging out regularly at his fans, demanding his fans to support him more, putting even less effort into the product.

I don't hate James just yet because I don't think he necessarily reached the point of being that insufferable personality. The problem is I see where this is heading and it isn't pretty. I hope he figures his problems out, but at this point it looks like he's on a collision course.

I would say a few more videos like his behind the scenes video, and I would for sure call him a cow. Something tells me though that this is why James did not respond to criticize or any drama, as behind the friendly boomer persona he has there is a dark side or some shit that is quick to anger, and pretty much just wants asspats from everyone no matter what he does. Hell, before this the largest controversies/shitshows that I can remember were the ghost-busters 2016 review. Which that controversy handled itself when james just shut up. The AVGN movie reception which was okay at best, and shitload of fuck at worse, and the cheetahman 2 Special Edition controversy. With all 3 James was either totally silent, or let mike talk for him.

Seems like he could make a living off of posting milquetoast movie reviews. He doesn't have to talk about video games if he doesn't want to. Granted, he won't make as much money, but he'd make enough to keep afloat.
He couldn't be bothered to write the reviews for this year's Monster Madness. Even when he does review a movie, he admits to watching it on mute with the subtitles on. Screenwave can't even do a review without copying somebody else's work. It's clear why they stick with AVGN and not movie reviews.

This whole controversy is actually pretty depressing. Cinemassacre was always on a downhill slope but this plagerism might just kill any good will James got back.
Kinda sad we went from having an actually pretty good AVGN episode which is one step forward, and then two steps backwards with this Monster Madness plagiarism issue.

I can kind of understand if there are people are making edits to the scripts, like maybe proofreading or adding some new ideas to make the quality better with some credits and some valuable discussion, but if you aren't capable of watching a movie and giving your own thoughts to it, it just feels no passion is being put into all of it. And plagiarism is the icing on top of this shitcake.

If Chris Bores is the one who is doing this, everyone would shit their pants over it. If James is doing it...

I think this is the biggest problem, James was lazy and didn't put the effort into Monster Madness so he gave it to a bunch of randos to write scripts for the reviews. I don't know if James plagerized it himself, it was more likely a massive fuck up or an intentional thieft by the writing crew putting these scripts together. My guess is they never watched these movies so had no frame of reference of what they were writing about which is why they took so many IMDB trivia and Wikipedia summaries for the reviews. Even if James didn't plagerize the reviews himself, the fact he had to admit he gave the project to his Screenwave crew is proof that he didn't write these reviews himself and probably just brought it back for revenue.

EDIT: The third (official) episode of the series, "Mark of the Devil", seems to borrow heavily from Wikipedia and Imdb: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheCinemassacreTruth/comments/q07fhc/mm_3_is_up/hf67uuw/?context=3

They half-assed the whole thing and made up excuses when they got caught. Personally, and you may disagree, but I don't view lifting IMDB trivia and Wikipedia summaries as necessarily plagerism. They're public encyclopedias anyone can reference, but it is a sign of laziness. Instead of James talking about these films from his heart, he's just reading these articles about it and calling it a day. I'm actually starting to perfer the Half In The Bag style discussion videos he did for Monster Madness over this because at least those were actually his thoughts on the movie. This whole shit show probably stings more because Monster Madness was everyone's favorite Cinemassacre show, it exposed you to all these horror films you probably never heard of that James was really passionate about. Like your high school buddy telling you about the horror movie he rented and recommending it to you.
It's such a depressing shit show.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he has to something dark to him. There is a sad reality that Kiwis need to acknowledge when it comes to these fallen YouTubers or any other content creator: it can literally happen to anyone. Everyone thinks it won't happen to them and they'll be able to avoid it, but yet we see so many people fall down the same path. Including professional entertainers.

It is very hard having a fanbase. Especially today when you will constantly hear direct feedback from them. In James's case I see two major reasons why things are going so differently from past controversies: for one he is more stressed out and has less interest in doing AVGN. And two, the latest controversies are no longer coming from random spergs or assholes but instead is coming directly coming from his fanbase itself.

James is starting to crack because he's under more stress than ever before and he isn't used to his fans being the ones taking serious shots at him.

The issue with James sorting his problems out is that he needs to remove the slobs from working with him and regaining his passion back. The issue is that is very unlikely and currently Cinemassacre is just a springboard for the Slobs to get their content across in the form of the Trojan Horse that is James.

Bozo the Clown, He owned the license at the time.
This sounded so absurd that I had to check it.
And it's true.

Sales of those products would be in addition to the company’s current revenue from the long-running Bozo television program, which is beamed by satellite to nations around the world, and other licensing arrangements. Those cover Laurel and Hardy properties as well as the No Bozos decals that swept the Southland three years ago. Part of Bozo’s resurgence is a result of BozoStuffs, a new clown family devised by Harmon’s crew in Hollywood.

James strikes me as shy and meek by nature but talkative about things he enjoys, which is probably why AVGN started since people like Mike Matei thought it was hilarious to see James Rolfe of all people freaking out over Nintendo games. That's why he stayed away from drama because it isn't in his nature to engage in that sort of thing.

But now the scandals keep piling up and people keep bashing him and I think the anxiety is really getting to him like never before. He knows it's costing him money (video views are mostly down this past year) and he knows he's just phoning it in and fans find Screenwave's shit passable at best. Yet he has no idea how to handle it because ditching Screenwave means he'd either need to find the passion again to write better scripts and make videos people actually like or take the time (which he doesn't have) to find someone who can do Screenwave's job but better.

He's very lucky he has Screenwave to act as the main target for everyone pissed at him, since a lot of it is his fault. James should probably just put it all on hiatus at this point, although the damage keeps piling up for his and the Cinemassacre brand. Like I doubt a lot of people would've made fun of Rex Viper if it was some project he did a year or two after he retired, they'd just think "Oh, that guy used to be the Angry Video Game Nerd, look how he plays guitar in a video game-themed cover band, that's kinda funny" and move on (or just enjoy the novelty for a sec) instead of constantly making fun of it.

It's not plagiarism to cite Wikipedia or IMDB, but you have to cite your source as Wikipedia or IMDB. Just say, "according to IMDB" or "according to Wikipedia". Wikipedia I know demands this with their Creative Commons license in that you have to attribute them and their editors as the source.

The thing with Rex Viper as well is that it's not even his own project, he isn't doing anything but playing guitar and it's clear the lead singer of it is just wanting to use the channel to further their own career. That made it perfectly clear to me how the Cinemassacre channel is just Screenwave wanting to further their own careers.

I think it's all about how you're doing it and how much you're doing it. When the crust of the reviews are barely reworded sentences taken from these encyclopedias, I don't think we can talk about simply "referencing" them anymore. But maybe talking about plagiarism is also inaccurate. Like @BrunoMattei said, it's kind of a grey area.

User /u/Rex_Viper gives us more examples of the video straight up copying the IMDB trivia page:

Here are some examples of his IMDb pilfering, there's quite possibly more but I don't have the inclination to type out everything James has said in the video (...)

IMDb trivia page: The film was banned in Germany from its video release in the 1980s until 2016.
Cinemassacre: It was eventually banned from a video release from the 80s until 2016.

IMDb trivia page: Originally Michael Reeves was set to direct this film, but he died shortly before production was to begin. The producers then decided to hire Michael Armstrong, who worked as Reeves' assistant on Witchfinder General.
Cinemassacre: Originally it was going to be directed by Michael Reeves who did Witchfinder General but he died shortly before production and was replaced by Michael Armstrong.

IMDb trivia page: The original ending was supernatural with the dead rising and pulling Christian into the abyss.
Cinemassacre: Supposedly there was an alternate ending that was supernatural. The dead would rise from their grave and drag Christian into an abyss.
Ultimately it doesn't matter how we call it. The fact remains that the person who wrote these reviews could have done so without even watching the movies.

(Another truther found out Newt Wallen stole several of the jokes he told at the AVGN Roast, back in 2013.)

Hasn't he already talked about this movie?
Briefly. Anyway, I haven't seen the recent vid, but I have no doubt that the slobs decided to pick it because the director of that made Parasite. A bit disappointing if you ask me because there's some really off the wall and crazy Korean horror that's better than this one. But that would require commitment to search them out and we all know what a bad word thar is to them these days.
I only learned about this plagiarism scandal just now. Man, it's really just sad. James phoning in AVGN as a means to pay the bills... sure. It's not his real passion, it's just something he ended up doing out of popularity... but movies are supposedly his passion and yet here we are. There is really no good outcome - either he plagiarized it or he didn't write (or steal, rather) it - both cases show almost no actual passion for what he is doing.

Honestly, I just have to assume that James is dead inside at this point. He doesn't seem to put effort or care into anything and lacks even the smallest amount of creative energy. I have to wonder if his 'no time' shtick is just an excuse to be lazy or if he truly is nothing but a parenting drone with no life outside of it.
It's depressing to say the least that a major part of my Octobers for the past decade (and easily James's biggest creative passion in my mind) has sunk to this.
A real saving grace at this point would be for them to put out another good AVGN episode (not a bad possibility with the upcoming C64 Halloween episode, and not to mention the upcoming 200th episode as well), but even then I think the stain of recent events won't fade away for a long while.
They won't ever go away. Now the entire Cinemassacre catalogue is suspect even if it's reasonable to look for plagiarism or not. Even a first rate Halloween episode is going to be filled with comments about this scandal regardless.
The issue with James sorting his problems out is that he needs to remove the slobs from working with him and regaining his passion back. Passion can return to a creative person, but there needs to be a spark for it. Can James find it? Not with those cancerous growths attached to him, but removal may not be the best option for the kind of life he's leading now.
