Neither of those examples scan nearly as well as what I actually wrote. The second half of the sentence directly relates to the first half, so there's no reason to break them off into two different sentences.
Besides, a run-on sentence looks something like this, a sentence that continues on and on for no real reason and has no real point, it just kind of rambles on aimlessly and ultimately just serves to waste the reader's time, just when you think it's finished it somehow keeps going until it starts to become so long that it becomes difficult to read, until eventually your eyes just glaze over it and you ignore whatever point it was trying to make.
