Not expensive care, but very tiring. Especially with having another, albeit healthy child. Caring for a regular child can be really messy, but imagine the sloppy horror feeding a newborn Russ had to have been. He couldn't be breastfed and whatever they put in his mouth fell out immediately because he can't move his lips. Fucking hell, a normal child is draining enough, the Greers must be saints to put up with Russ for so long.

Well, to be fair, there are expenses involved. He needed a feeding tube as a wee one (you can still see the scars) and they tried a really expensive surgery when he was young to try to transplant some muscle/nerve tissue from his thigh to his face. (Didn't work, obviously -- it was a longshot to begin with but the Greers did try.) That's not to mention the speech therapy and any other special needs stuff he may have needed just to try to make his life less terrible.

So yeah, it's not like he was wheelchair bound or completely incapable of taking care of himself or anything like that, but there were expenses. And I'm pretty sure the Wisdom of the Thread determined his bioparents were likely in a financial position to take care of it.

I still don't think they're bad people though. Or if they are, it's not because of this. You really don't owe anyone an explanation for what you are or aren't equipped to deal with, financially, emotionally, or otherwise.

edit: I just had a mildly disturbing idea and I'm gonna inflict it on all of you. Someone I know has a parrot and when it was small, it had to be fed via a syringe. As soon as he was old enough to communicate, it would have been apparent he was low intelligence and antisocial. It's been speculated he was in special Ed as a student. He never should have been allowed to go college, I refuse to believe he passed his classes and wasn't simply rubber stamped to get rid of him. Now he harasses innocent people with baseless lawsuits because he thinks he knows the law and is "basically a lawyer."

Just a super quick refresher on his birth fam for those who didn't read the entire thread or have forgotten:

Originally, we thought he was given up due to his bio family not being able to support a disabled kid. Later, though, it became obvious that they were actually pretty well off, and the decision was either about not being emotionally equipped or something else.

At some point he tried to reconnect. It did not go well. He may or may not have jumped to his bio sister without permission from his bio mother; I can't find the info on what little we know about that fateful meeting.

Bio sis hates him, he said. Because he is disabled, of course, not because he's a piece of shit who reacted badly to her not immediately embracing him and getting him in with Hollywood. She apparently never knew she had a twin.

If anyone recalls whereabouts more info is, that would be great. I could have sworn there were more horse's mouth comments about his bio mom, but I can't find them.

Other than that, we only really know speculation shit and a few passing comments. The most that I can recall Russel talking about his bio fam at all was in the open letter he posted to his biological father. Prime Russ.

It is possible that the greasy gourd had been mainstreamed with pull outs and/or self-contained--even for part of his day. For one thing, self-contained, even for part of his day, is beneficial for the teacher and support staff to get a gage on where he's at, what he needs both long and short term, as well as giving Russ the chance to socialize with other different kids. Different in different ways...but kids who certainly can both sympathize and empathize in their own way--and make socializing a bit less awkward.

But of course, this is Russell Godfrey Greer. And if you ever worked in therapeutic settings, you'll know that there are shitty personalities in SPEDS, physically and developmentally disabled, accident victims, and mental health sufferers. All stripes. And we already know from his own posts, his shitty books, and what people who knew him posted, he...stands out regardless of what the Greers did or did not do.

The fact he thinks writing a dumb little jingle for a person who was awarded Artist of the Decade for the 2010s would make her use her clout to make him famous shows a massive breakdown in reasoning. If it worked like that, why aren't her siblings famous as well? Surely she'd make them famous before some rando who wrote a shitty little jingle for her.

Anyway, she took a reading on him, realized he was a broke-ass chump, and proceeded to order lots of booze (which of course incensed the morally superior Russ) and when the time came to go to her place, Russ didn't have enough money to pay for sex, just a lap dance which from what he said she deliberately made awkward so he'd leave and make room for customers who know how hookers work. But both events are hilarious, and we should take every opportunity to remind Russ he can't get laid even when he's paying for it. I consider this a mission from the Lord Himself.
