I've skimmed the article and it seems like a lose-lose situation. Apparently the "feds" (meaning probably game wardens who answer to the agriculture and wildlife feds) killed some wolves after complaints from a rancher. I assume the wolves were attacking livestock. So some wolves had to be killed and some of these wolves are/were being monitored by an Idaho high school for science education. Damn, wish my high school did stuff like that.

Sanctioned killings like this are sometimes necessary to protect livestock and just people in general. I don't know what the laws surrounding wolves are in different states because we don't have any in mine. Coyotes are always fair game though. Here you're forbidden from killing certain birds of prey, like red-tailed hawks. But you can get permission to kill them if you have sufficient proof they've caused livestock damage and you've exhausted other routes to scare them away.

American has a mandate but I'm not sure how far along they are. Delta, last I heard, is simply increasing the cost of health insurance for the unvaccinated by $200/mo. That won't actually make anyone safer or reduce the time they're out sick, but ECMO is expensive, someone has to pay for it. Apparently 84% decided they'd rather get vaccinated, which is better than the national average but not really great.

In the tech sector, IBM announced their mandate last week, justifying it by claiming as they have some contracts with federal agencies (for servers and services) that means they're Federal Contractors and thus required to be 100% vaxxed. Get the jab by December 8th or you're put on "unpaid leave" and/or "have badge access revoked."

The latter is a fancy way of saying they'll disable your computer accounts as well as access to IBM buildings. The former is a neat trick, as Unpaid Leave means they don't have to fire you and thus don't have to risk a wrongful termination lawsuit; they just leave you hanging forever until you give up and quit for a new job or get the jab.

Oh, and no exemption process in place according to my sources. So if you're religious and object to the idea of using a vaccine made out of fetal tissue remains of murdered babies, you can just get fucked, Daddy IBM thinks your silly little beliefs are quaint but they will make your medical decisions for you, thank you very much.

I don't know about this exact case, but I recall there's been a touchy grey area between "don't kill any wolf ever" and "get off my land, wolf assholes" for a while, so while I won't mind dogpiling (heh) on with this, this probably isn't anything specific to Biden

Some of them suspect the reason Southwest is blaming "weather" is because they don't need to give refunds if its "weather" and not crews walking off the job.

Bummer, but only boomers work at IBM now anyway, which is probably why they’re being so heavy handed...they know most boomers won’t find another job. Still have not heard a peep since Biden’s mandate from my Silicon Valley company, who is also a federal contractor. They’ve stuck to “click a box saying you’re jabbed if you want to attend in person things” but nothing about the entire workforce.
