is this how a mid-life crisis looks like? "its not a phase honey!"
there's something inside me that needs to come ouuuuuuut

Who sung it better?

The thing is that we've seen this process happen a thousand different times with various personalities. He's going to continue to lose interest in being the Nerd. The criticism from the detractors will continue to mount. Both will play off each other. Eventually it will lead to the same destination every cow before James reached.

I don't won't James to go down this path. I would love for him to restore his reputation and find the thing that makes him happy. But right now he's in a really dark place. It will only get worse before it gets better. If it ever does.
I guess I should face reality, this IS a grieving thread

Where are we so far?

Financhu crisis / rip off fans / insincere apology / double-down / self-destructive raging / sincere apology / e-begging

we are at insincere apology for getting caught with plagiarism and doubling-down on plagiarism

Yeah... I was disappointed by the half-assed apology video and by the fact they decided to leave it unlisted - and on a secondary channel even. What were James and Justin thinking? You either apologize or you don't. And the "I didn't do it" line was very lolcow-ish. I realize James was just reading a script written for him, but being this dismissive and nonchalant about his beloved internet show being accused of plagiarism (legitimately or not) is kind of shocking.

My emotions! Godbear with me while I get my head around this shit-show. I really should read 2500 posts to catch up instead of reposting the same shit, but here we are.

Is it fair to say eating too much food is a symptom of greed? This is the first time James didn't write his own Monster Madness script, and got dogshit from the people who are supposed to be making his life easier. He should be livid but he just sits there cuckily reading Justin's words blaming some nameless employee who definitely wasn't Justin (or Kieran).

Justin responds to the fuck up that happened on his watch.

When his wife leaves him for another... something with a pulse for once, he'll have a crash into slumber moment. Maybe if he has to assert his sexuality he'll do a video holding onto an action figure of Egon from the Ghostbusters or something.

The sad thing is: I thought the Monster Madness videos were mostly a return to form. It was like the older episodes with clips of the movies and shit. It gives a good and brief overview of obscure horror. What was missing, obviously, was James' own take on the material.

This one's my favorite:

Of course the one time he covers Fulci during the series he focuses on The Black Cat. Which IMHO is underrated but most people dislike it.

I can tell from your name you're a Kinoisseur, The Black Cat is definitely a weird choice but at least it's an obscure one. At least he didn't go for the usual Zombi 2 and The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery would have been a better choice. (afaik it's not that famous, at least in the US, but I could be wrong).

remember polybious and the dream phone video?
Later episodes of Board James were pure gold.

how long do you think rex viper is gonna last as a band?
Until other members will use it as trampoline to do something better. I get a feeling they are with James because it's free publicity, and you can sign about eye of tiger electronics only for so long. I wouldn't blame them. I kinda feel that this "gaming" theme of rex viper is also a trampoline for James. He would love to play something more serious, but disconnecting from AVGN means starting from square one.

Until James gets bored.
That's always the thing with James I've noticed. He will branch off into somewhat interesting ideas, until he gets bored with it. I recall him stopping monster mash a couple of years ago, and fan outcry got him back into it, in which leads us into the plagiarism drama we had a couple of weeks ago. Board James was another project he did that ended because he felt like it had run its course with the storyline.

Even though he still could review obscure board games from the 80's & 90's, he stopped doing it because he was probably bored.

I personally prefer the earlier episodes of Board James; the later ones get too convoluted with dumb story lines. I think James is at his best when he keeps the idea simple and curbs his more ambitious ideas. Same with early YKWBullshit episodes; the concept and initial execution were good, but then he had to pull a classic James move and create a character with head made out of shit. His content could be so good if he didn’t resort to dumb gimmicks.

No, of poor impulse control. To paraphrase Gordon Gecko, greed is good when it gets you somewhere. All overeating gets you to is early death. I'm willing to cut Justin some fat for being a glutton since he was always fat, and I hold a warm place in my stone heart for people who were called fat as kids (assuming Justy was telling the truth...).

In light of the recent plagiarism controversy and subsequent stealth-editing of stolen material, I'd like to thank Mr. Justin Silverman for proving that American Jews, even if raised in poverty (cool story bro), are scum of the earth.
