Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

I voted yes on Something Awful getting a thread.

My only experience with Something Awful was that everything I read came off as a bunch of teenagers struggling to appear too cool for the room by claiming that everything they ever encountered in life was bad.

For example; I saw a thread dedicated to doing a screenshot by screenshot LP of an allegedly terrible PS1 game, which happened to be a greatest hit title, where the OP would do nothing but remark how terrible the game was despite the fact he was still playing it.

It was pathetic.

It was diet 4chan.

I never looked back.

Then again, I'm betting a lot of people did that, considering that there needs to be a poll for it.

Something Awful is alright if you stay out of the subforums that attract dorks and tryhards. The cooking and gun subforms are good but E/N sucks five dicks and the mods impose so many arbitrary, conflicting rules its hard to tell what's okay and what gets you the boot.

Belatedly spotted on the SS thread about this thread:

This is my favorite thing.

I'm on the fence about SS.

Their dox of Aatrek and Zeitguest was amazing, but their shitposts really aren't that funny. Like, it's stuff you'd see on a slow day on /pol/.

I've been there for awhile whenever I mined them for content about lolcows, and they have the following types of posters:

The 888ers: "888" is SS shorthand for guys who type long walls of text.

The "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong" posters: Hardcore fascists who don't apologize for it and are totally serious.

The Shitposting shitposters: They do a lot of drive by inane bullshit posting to derail threads. Occasionally tolerated if funny, but most of these guys get plexxed (hellbanned to their shitposting graveyard) if they don't lay off when warned to.

Everyone else: The people who actually treat the forum like a forum and not just a more structured version of /pol/.

Kinda off topic but there's no SA thread, so for anyone who doesn't know, the Something Awful forums are currently down. The page was redirecting to a rap video a while ago. Not sure what's going on, but Lowtax has recently been complaining that traffic is way down and the site isn't profitable anymore. If something serious is going down, we could be in for some delicious milk.

How much it costs to run a ramshackle shit like SA?
Perhaps Lowtax should set up a Paetron? Given the site is already infested with SJWs and trannies, someone is sure to show him how.

I imagine the decaying infrastructure and the lack of modern ideas and techniques implemented by the site's tech groups contribute a lot to this.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the site finally dies. When your grandfather's spent the past decade in decay from Alzheimer's, news of his passing becomes a formality rather than an event.

SA is like The Simpsons in a way. It basically defined internet comedy for a while, but now it's just a sad fuck of a relic. No longer relevant, too insular and unchanging to ever become relevant again.

This will likely happen. SS had a thread where they discussed the technical aspects of SA, and the future of SA is pretty bad because:

* Incredibly customized vbulletin software that has been butchered and altered to the point they can't upgrade to the newest official version without breaking the site, even though theirs is obscenely outdated. Ironically, this makes them much like TV Tropes, a site they hate, though at least TV Tropes has actual competent coders working on it at present to drag it into modern day.

* They have no coding staff anymore. Radium is long gone, Lowtax knows jack squat about the technical aspects of running his site, and none of his staff have any clue as well. One of them even broke the entire database simply by moving a forum around.

* Their hardware is ancient. As in, you have to haunt eBay and flea markets in case it breaks to find spares level ancient, and the setup is so dated that is hard to upgrade away from as well.

Sounds... awful.
