This is less legal and more revealing of social media- but in power leveling a little bit, had a position as a moderator on a certain social media site. This is something that didn't sit that well with me at the time of the shooting because I did have access to the video, had seen it from multiple angles, and concluded that there were two reasonable ways to react- either that this was a very nuanced issue, legally complex, and should be left alone till properly analyzed, or, and where I somewhat stood myself, that this likely fell under the clause of self defense.
Within maybe a day or two, this was the social media company's reaction to Rittenhouse. Bear in mind, as it was within a day noone knew the full context and the video we did have did indeed seem like one involving self defense. Many opinions could be taken from that video as it was very fresh, but only one was really allowed on social media.
To summarize, if content with the hashtag Kylerittenhouse is circulating- see if it is criticizing him, and if it isn't- remove the post and if the person repeats behavior, ban them. If someone uses a hashtag supporting Rittenhouse, they were to be treated as if they belonged to or supported a hate group.
Again, this policy is old and came out maybe a day or two after the shooting about a year ago. Even as soon as the video had aired, it seems evident that social media and the progressives there had made up their mind that not only was Rittenhouse guilty, but that he was the equivalent of a domestic terrorist and people who supported him or even questioned the narrative that he was a domestic terrorist were supporting hate groups (again, content condemning his actions was allowed, but not content questioning the condemnation or supporting him).
It will be a very frustrating day to see him go to prison for something like this, considering the cards have been stacked against him from the start of this video circulating on social media and there has been a very deliberate effort by social media companies to shape and control the narrative around him in the public. These people already considered him guilty from day one.
