In 2021, James Rolfe worked on and plagiarized multiple reviews for his annual Monster Madness series. The most outrageous of these was the first review for 28 Days Later... which copied word for word a review written by Cecilia Sayad for Film Comment in 2003. He also plagiarized from ScreenAge Wasteland's review of Bad Taste and reworked many Wikipedia articles into other videos (a technique known as patchwork writing, not explicitly plagiarism).
Rolfe eventually responded to these despicable actions four days later in an unlisted video on his secondary YouTube channel and offered an apology- while also placing blame on an unnamed employee. The implication is that he was blaming Newt Wallen for the acts of plagiarism, however their company's initial response has muddied the facts: earlier explanations from producer Justin Silverman claimed the script was written by Rolfe and was 10 years in the making.
Other acts of Plagiarism surrounding Rolfe's Cinemassacre resurfaced following this, including parts of AVGN episodes being plagiarized as well as the cover artwork for his AVGN Series: BFG Blu-ray being stolen from fan art.
