I think it’s possible that’s the case or Jeff for whatever reason did a down payment and paid Lowtax the rest in installments. Whatever the arrangement is or was, I don’t think Lowtax thought it was favorable for him because he drug his feet about the sale for months and only one thing gets Lowtax’s undivided attention, money. It just seemed out of character for Lowtax to take so long to sell SA unless he really had no choice but to accept the deal offered and he was unenthusiastic about it.
Maybe, but it would've been harder than it sounds. Jeff was organizing the mods to all quit, and he himself was the main tech guy at the time; without all of them there's a huge exodus and shit starts breaking. Besides, Lowtax was a total absentee landlord, so he had no idea which users would've been decent mods, or even not-total-disasters (the bench isn't exactly brimming with talent these days unless you're a fan of gender-confused communists).
Looking at how big of a junky Lowtax is, yes, I do believe he is lazy enough to walk away from a steady no-effort income if it required him to actually interact with the forum and run the place, even if only for a month or so.
This is actually a feature, whenever something is going on that's getting a lot of guest views the site goes paywall up (but I don't think it's automatic). People want to keep reading, they have to sign up. And they will.i hate that the paywall is still up i missed all the sweet dave chapelle melt downs and stuff
