If it was planned to gain publicity, they did a very poor job of doing it. Personally, it could have been a bit for a future podcast episode. If Vito and Dick wanted to actually look good, they would have put more effort into it... and not have Vito there at all because he's a rotund slob. Instead of having a really bad sign; they should have made signs highlighting free speech, and that Dave is entitled to his opinions on whatever.
Instead, Dick and Vito (especially Vito) make it about comedy. Comedy is downstream from freedom of speech. The two should have protested that Dave has a right to speak. By defending comedy, they are both saying: "You can only say what you want when it's supposed to be a joke." Vito is really guilty of this when it came to Alex Jones on Nerdrotic's livestream, which he contacted YouTube about on Twitter in an attempt to get it pulled down. In that Dick Show episode with Nick Rekieta, Vito made some batshit insane mental gymnastics about how it's okay for Dick to say anything he wants because he's a comedian while Alex Jones should be pulled down for presenting "misinformation."
I don't know. Could it be that Dick wanted publicity, but he knew it would seem hypocritical to talk about free speech with the human incarnation of Slimer behind him? Instead of defending free speech, he's forced to defend "comedy."
Also, this picture gives you a good look at Dick's arms.
