General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Given 2 out of 3 of them (Joey and Connor) were part of Ollie's birthday call in I wouldn't say they were shut out of anything.
I mean, they obviously had more in mind than that and the Apex stream Ollie brought up before never happened so I think it checks out from a purely speculative standpoint.

I have nothing to add to this Connor discussion other than noting that the clip was probably from a stream before Calli’s collab with Ironmouse. So the timeline of events is TT -> making a dick of himself in Ame’s chat =? his retarded take on the Hololive community circa late 2020 -> the stream that clip was taken from -> Ironmouse/Calli collab. Dishonorable mention for his attempted grift onto Ollie before settling for Ironmouse in the interim.

Because what Connor said is simply not true. You think Hololive has this level of success simply because they're lucky? No, it's because the talents are willing to learn and improve themselves, with some savvy strategy taken by the company/management (some, not all, mind you). Opening up a new branch for what is basically an uncharted market is a very risky move, and HoloEN only managed to pulled it off because the HoloMyths members are talented, and the company is willing to give them their full support. If all that it took is just some luck, then why can't Nijisanji with their first iteration of NijiEN, the Niji India failed? There's a reason why the other Holomems admired the HoloMyth, even calling them the "Genius Generation".

And if you think anyone can be successful as long as they're part of Hololive, just look at Kiara's numbers now, and also Anya. Their growth suffered a lot because of the mistake both of their own faults and also of the company's. Kiara for being the numberfagging menhera she is, and Anya because she didn't give a fuck at what she's doing.

Putting Holo's success purely on "luck" or "the Lightning in the Bottle Moment" is a massive disservice to the efforts the talents did to improve themselves. Would Subaru became as big as she is now if not for her hardwork? Would Pekora can keep her growth were if not for her almost daily long streams? Same thing is also attributing their success solely because they're "Hololive". Literally almost no one have ever heard of their name before last year, even more people know of Nijisanji than Holo back then.

(Also contributing to Holo's success is the fans, fanworks, and also the clippers, but that's a story for another time)

Edit:
Also what @ChefKiss said is true, brand name power alone is not a guarantee for success or financial gains. Also a quick reminder, Coco and Kanata said they used to have poor SC results and such. And now what happened now, Coco is one the first SC earner in VTubers history, and that only happened because she put a lot of hard work on her channel
I really wish that people could learn to respond to criticism of Hololive (regardless of whether said criticism is justified or not) without feeling the need to write a damn hagiography.

ID branch works differently though. I can assure that they could never call in EN's birthday stream, even Stars have better chance with that.

No that clip from stream is after Mori's collab with Ironmouse.
I mean, they obviously had more in mind than that and the Apex stream Ollie brought up before never happened so I think it checks out from a purely speculative standpoint.
Also must include another podcast episode with Mori. It's gonna be soon year since that episode and some of the TT fans are getting desperate because they keep bothering Mori with their collabbegging.

That was hilarious. I'm hoping to see some clips of IRyS being clueless in that collab (probably exist already, haven't looked). Peak for me was that she pronounced Hades as "Haids", and that lead to Baelz trolling her about the pronunciation of other Greek and Roman figures.
And the gay clock egged her on to boot:

So far I got:
  1. Misheard "Captain Underpants" and image searched for "cat in underpants", of course right in front of Baelz
  2. Hades -> "Hayds" again in front of the rrat
  3. Had no idea who Shaggy from Scooby Doo was
  4. Chat asked her to do the valley gurl accent and flat out asked "what's a valley girl? is that a girl who lives in a valley?" then proceeded to do an impression of the sheriff (Calliope)
  5. Debutted on minecraft... the JP server that is and got the first unscripted interaction with Polka

There's no denying Hololive is a Big Brand(tm). Entering Cover's portfolio of talents guarantees a significant amount of eyeballs on you.

Whether or not the eyeballs stay on you is entirely up to the talent themselves. No amount of corporate water carrying can save a shit streamer from themselves.

It takes an exceptional individual to not realize or understand the difference between being given a golden ticket, and being given a map where gold might be buried.
another reason comments like that are peak retardation is that brand power isn't static. you first have to get to that level, and if you sell shit products (or sign shit talent) under the assumption it will sell on brand power alone you will only do so for a limited time. best example: disney and their products. joining a high value entitiy (corp, band, team, whatever) gives you an immense boost, no shit, but it's also in the interest of the entitiy to not hire shit assets to keep that value, which means the whole assumption is based on cover suddenly going full retard, which is also retarded.

Like i have repeated again and again GPB functions with another set of rules, because they are not the main cashcows of the company and their branch is niche they get away with a lot of stuff that would not fly in the main branches, ID and Stars in exchange of being disposable get infinitely more freedom, so Ollie being called by those guys is approved because Cover doesnt care to much about it

6. did not know how to use a rotary phone, Irys is the ultimate zoomer that ever zoomed

EDIT2: I also get the strangest feeling that post Calli podcast, Calli did hangout with them irl. To the point where Cover management decided it needed to stop because of the risk of not Calli's roommate but rather these 0 fucks given about JP corpo rules and culture outsiders.Personally, if I was the person who had to brainstorm possible risks of the business, I would have seen it as a risk that one of these monke brains would end up leaking/doxxing her and that's a risk too high for a idol/entertainment company like Cover. And that prolly rubbed Cannur the wrong way and/or maybe even blueballed him. But that's my rrat.
I doubt management actually polices who talents interact with in their personal affairs since that just seems draconian and overbearing as hell. Calli still definitely hangs out with them though. In the TakaMori MC collab the other day she talks about drinking her "gamer juice that doesn't sponsor me" because her "friends had a ton stocked at their office and told me to take some." Also the tweet a few months back of her and Syd at the same place.

I wouldn't hold it against her though. As an expat, finding people you can clearly talk to can be hard and you take what you can get especially if they're in the same field. Even if one is a complete retard, at least the other two have some semblance of professionalism.

While what you're saying is true I would also say memberships is absolutely something you have to work to grow and maintain and not a golden ticket that you just get by brand name

For the record, 'Golden Ticket' implies indiscriminate luck, whereas anyone who gets selected for 5 slots out of 6,000+ applications is statistical luck. The former implies anyone could have got in, the latter implies that you stood out for one reason or another even though the odds are against you.

I'll concede that the phrase 'guaranteed success' implies that all you need to do is get in and it's smooth sailing - which it isn't - but it IS true that a place in Hololive = the most frontloaded exposure and level of fame one can springboard off of, which is moreso what I was getting at in that there is literally no better opportunity for them in the industry. No other EN group can boast 90,000+ debut streams and 200K+ subscribers before they debut. They just need to not completely fuck it up out the gate and they win.

By all accounts, even though the difference is massive, NijiEN members have been given their 'golden opportunity' by virtue of getting into the company too. Selen hasn't changed one bit between now and DokiBird, and yet she made more money in one random Dead Space 2 stream than she did in her entire career. Millie is about to overtake in subs her entire year as Lyrica who, might I add, was an icon for NijiID and HoloID alike. Eden-gumi have been the most successful NijiJP wave ever in terms of their debut stats. Aloe was eligible for a 3D model despite spending her entire stint at Hololive under suspension. These are not criticisms. This is just what it means to get into one of these companies nowadays. You are basically guaranteed some semblance of success by getting in and not yabbing (and shit, Nina is now Ethyria's most-subbed member despite the KSON shit and the annoying honey spam so even that isn't a guarantee).

Saving this for future generations to come.
No it isn't recent.
BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA~
Looking forward to the next 5 pages about this when the rest of the thread wakes up.

I hate Connor and think he's a faggot
That's about the only thing you said with sense.
just that the brand power is so strong that even hiring someone who is no good at what they do would still rake it in.
Except Hololive would not pick up people tat aren't good enough. Even those that are probably needed to try more than one.
Opinion discarded.
I don't get what's the problem with what he said. Maybe im exceptional but what drama is there to take from what he said? That some of the girls are getting carried by the company and not by their talent?

Going by what some people have commented about some of the girls, Im impressed that more people are not on board with what he said. At this point I think people just hate Connor more because he is a normie who constantly interacts with the talents than anything.
Ahh, the old "you're just JEALOUS of him" bullshit. Yeah, no. Have you tried not being retards?
Risu and Iofi havent even made 50k lifetime. Choco-sensei only recently broke 150k in 3 years, and Mel just over 110k they both make more in their day jobs and it's not because they're bad streamers but the brand name alone doesnt bring you instant success. Spare me any argument you want to make about them being less popular or well known or anything because it's all true of AkiRose too and she is near $450k.
So no, what he said wasnt true, it's an exceptional individual anituber with an exceptional anituber take with no bearing on reality
Exhibit one.
Right. You'd have to completely ignore the years of hard work and portfolio building of these people before they got accepted into Hololive to imply they don't deserve it,
Which is exactly what he did.
but all he's saying here is that the success is guaranteed, which nowadays it is. It's really not negotiable.
Ah fuck, here we go again.
Okay, all the hate for him suddenly justified. And he complained that he can't collab with Hololive anymore lmao. Imagine calling them "Not necessirily a good streamer and still get instant success." and still want to clout chasing them.
You only just noticed?
Gigguk at least tries to--
Fuck off the thread until you masturbate, then maybe come back.

Careful everyone, the Giggcuckquisition's gonna put hats and puzzle pieces on you! The horror!! :story:
Man those DM circlejerks must be a thing to see.

At this point, any time I see one of these “serious” or “damning” clips, I just go and look up the original source, because have the time it’s a big nothing taking out of context because clippers.

I have no idea if the Conner thing is or not, just saying it’s go to check for the full context of what’s happening.

This is what you actually posted.

Hololive IS instant success and arguing the contrary is ludicrous.

the brand power is so strong that even hiring someone who is no good at what they do would still rake it in.
