The issue with adopting during modern times is that shelters have become increasingly unethical and their selection is often abysmal. Go in one near any large population center and you'll end up surrounded by pitbulls or obvious pitbull mixbreeds that the shelter is trying to pass off as a friendly lab.

Unfortunately, I think that the shitty breeder problem is going to get worse. Not just with dogs, but with other species too. Part of the problem is social media influencers are promoting bad practices to hoards of people without the intelligence nor the money to do things properly.

This is an incredibly well written thread, you've done a great job here. It's one of the most interesting (but absolutely horrifying) things I've read online for a while. I knew that backyard breeding of "designer" dogs had had gotten big due to Ronachan but had no idea these absolute abominations existed. The short lifespan is almost a blessing as I can't imagine how uncomfortable they must be for their whole lives.

Are they mentally disabled too? I noticed that in all of the videos they seem very out of it and slow, wasn't sure if they are sedated or retarded.

I mean...maybe? A lot of inbreeding gives rise to more genetic error so things like a canine version of Down's can theoretically occur where there's too many chromosome or they're otherwise abnormal. (Most genetic human mental retardation stems from chromosome errors.)

As no one is obviously going to bother with genetic testing we can only speculate. I know for sure hydrocephalus exists in dogs at least, that's where "apple head" chihuahuas come from.

Otherwise it could just be the monumental effort it takes these dogs to just breathe, much less move around.

My family and I have had hounds in the family for three gens. Why? Because we all live in woodland areas and hounds are typically okay for allergies. So we go to a breeder whenever we're looking for a new dog.

I used to work in a shelter. It's infested with pits nowadays. It's unpredictable and easy to lose control if you're not prepared for wonky mutt backgrounds.

There's nothing wrong with adoption or breeding as both serve a purpose. But you have to be responsible on both ends.

It's a very deformed Persian, but it's behavior is not overly weird for a cat. Some cats do actually enjoy water. I have one that likes to drink from a running tap that he also plays in. He also sucks on his tail. Not enough to make a bald spot or anything, but I still have no idea why he does this. He's a perfectly normal looking orange cat.

Cats are just weird.

Jesus i forgot about these frog dogs, I was kinda excited when I first saw the start of the thread bc i had a lil nose around in frog dog culture back when Hulk was big news (and the drama about what his mum was)
I cant belive how much worse they gotten, they were always shit at brething but at least they could stand up (kinda) now they look absolutly fucked from there to nail to the flat of their noses. And why are they still a thing, surely theyve been around long enough now that people are starting to click that they dont live long or with a high quality of life. like pugs and frenchies are known to be sickly but there still a pedagree in a way and thats expected for predagree dogs now.
These frog dogs, i really dont get. there not marketed as pretty fashion items like all the other trendy dogs in the past and they very clearly cant fight and arent big enough to be intimidating
