Now you're getting to my neck of the woods. That's a work of Michael Leunig, a moderate conservative cartoonist who over the past few years has turned into a tinfoil hat wearing moron. He was actually fired from his home, the Melbourne Age newspaper because of this cartoon. It caused such a rancor amongst Melbournians, and so many complaints, given how Melbourne suffered because of Covid lockdowns, that he copped the sack.

Some of his more controversial hits include: Shitting on modern Mums because phone bad. Going out to bat for men jailed for domestic abuse. Some anti-vaxx spergery. And he feels threatened by the Gays, this one dated just as Same Sex Marriage was legislated, just before some of you go "Muh Troonz!" And also this piece here, which is a mix of weird anti-gay/vaxx shit IDK.

I mean Fauci isn't Hitler but it's pretty clear this guy hasn't been consistent. Just look at how in March masks are useless to October everyone should double mask. It doesn't take a genius to see that the average person hasn't been given the full story.

I have only vague and mild opinions about Fauci, but he's first and foremost a scientist. Although he clearly likes being the center of attention, he is not a good communicator, which is why I don't like people who worship him. The mask flip-flopping was not good, but they were going on current information while (badly) trying to prevent shortages of N95s and surgical masks in the early months. The messaging around the pandemic probably would have been better if the CDC had some people who were better at public relations. For example, saying "wear a mask to protect other people" was terrible messaging for Americans and also not even true (masks do provide some protection to the wearer).

Skepticism of the government and corporations is well-justified, but in my opinion this position from most COVID schizos is not honest. It's quite telling that so many of them only seemed to adopt this position when the pandemic started and only apply it to whatever the media they watch applies it to. If they are skeptical of corporate power, why do they defend the most sociopathic behavior from private companies on the basis of "muh free market"? If "owning big pharma" is their goal, why aren't they advocating for allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices? This is just about a party pandering to a base full of politics-as-sportsball "us vs. them" retards while not being honest enough to admit that's what they're doing.
