I think I mentioned this a long while ago, but it's interesting to compare this situation to the tail end of Woodrow Wilson's presidency. A hundred years ago, when almost everyone got their news from the paper and radio was a fledgling industry, it was comparatively easier to cover up the fact that the President had suffered a debilitating stroke. Even then, they couldn't hide it forever, and it was only a few months before his condition became more widely known.

With Biden, there's no chance of a coverup like Wilson had. Between the 24-hour news cycle, a camera in every pocket, and the freedom to post anything online where it can be instantly viewed around the world, it's always just a matter of time before something embarrassing leaks like this, or any of Biden's other dementia gaffes. They're trying their damnedest to mitigate that potential by shoving him in the basement as much as possible, but that leads to its own problems of "where the fuck is the President?" It only worked during the election because they simply needed an empty suit to run against Bad Orange Man (voter fraud aside), but now that the empty suit is supposed to be doing a job, the illusion is falling apart.

The reason I think Gehenna explained (and I might be ninja'd) is that the entire reason the other sections tolerated the Progs (emphasis on past tense) is that:

1. The Prog section gives them an immense amount of bodies and boots-on-the-ground that, not only valued for numbers, they also are true believers so that they don't need to have a paper trail of bribes to do their bidding. For instance, the individual antifa members who, during the riots, smashed the glass buildings to make them weak to looting by joggers. Did the leaders need to spend political capital to get the antifa people to smash those buildings (or attack the Capitol building in Portland, et al)? No, because they are true believers. This, combined with their numbers and sheer presence, made them valuable.

2. Until recently, things they said were tolerated because it didn't harm the other factions. With AOC on the helm, and when the leaders themselves were small, it didn't impact their ability to pass legislation. Beforehand, imo the faction would never have stood their ground and refused to vote for an omnibus bill like now. But their pushing on troonery etc. affecting a stooge like McAufflie (or however you spell his name) from getting elected made them poison. Normies believed the whole "oh that's an extreme view, my local Dem politician isn't like that." But now they're learning that, yes, your local Dem politician, whether they are a true believer or not, will at the very least act according to those views. And as a result normies are going "I've been a Democrat my whole life but I can't vote for them anymore."
