He at least usually has no idea what weird degenerate shit Dick or his guest are talking about, or at least it seemed that way in the few episodes I watched years ago. Usually that meant they could steer him into believing their side of the story but that's not really his fault.

My assumption is that Vito does it because he believes, mistakenly, that all attention is good attention. For a normal person, he or she might realize that saying they're a pedophile might be a bad thing; Vito, on the other hand, believes it's going to draw people to check him out.
