You should be in the right mindset if you feel strongly about the franchise and be ready for disappointment. Most franchises I hold dear tend to disappoint with their returns. Hellraiser sinks deeper into a septic tank with every new movie, Nightmare on Elm Street farted out miserable remake and then died, X-Files had some moments but went too far into meta\comedy territory, new Blade Runner was rather mediocre (then again I read the follow-up novel and that was the story of what happened next for me for way too long), Star Wars was a farce (but again I may be biased after reading the novels). The only thing I'm fully satisfied with is probably Godzilla (Japanese line) - Shin was amazing, second only to the original from 1954 in my opinion.
There are other things that one can interpret as grift - like using Andrew's affection (sure, expressed in a creepy way but still affection) to get some of his money or the GoFundMe campaign for the book that's already published, just to give copies away or donate to charities.
