Phil trying to be a snobby food critic is hilarious. Anyone who has seen his cooking (along with his past (fast?) feasts) knows that whatever comes out of his mouth is the same contents of his head when it comes to cuisine: pure bullshit. It's funny how he's bashing American food for being bland, but last week bashed the Japanese for thinking KFC was the pinnacle of American food. One wonders how many splinters he's gotten in his gouty ass from all of the fence riding he's been doing.

I wouldn't call it fence riding, I think Phil has always lacked any consistency of opinion on anything. He lacks the self awareness to even have cognitive dissonance, much less recognize it. He's got a dog-brain, but less likeable.

Someone should of Superchatted and asked is that shit better than his wife's cooking so I could watch him either reel back everything he said or just outright ban the guy for even asking.
I think him saying soul food is "bland" was probably a misspoken phrase he used since he utterly hates/scared being around black people and wouldn't step foot in a restaurant or house full of them. Probably meant fast food but of course said something else because he just makes up lies as he goes.
Its also amazing how big-headed he is with food considering the slop he makes:

The other irony here is that what he considers to be 'Italian Food' would largely be regarded as 'American' by anyone in Italy, since it has deviated so far from traditional recipes. Even what he interprets to be ethnic food really isn't.
There was a great (and bizarre) portion towards the end of Slopping in the Trough with the Pig tonight where he was complaining that nobody had told him how flavorful Mediterranean cuisine was, and wondering why he had only just discovered it now. It says a lot more that a man who was almost 40 has never thought to try different kinds of cultural foods until prompted to do so as a meme for his streams that he can use to bait money. Instead he vaguely blames other people for not telling him about it.
Extrapolating on that, the only reason Phil is an ignorant shut-in is because nobody has told him how to live any differently. We're each of us responsible for the failure that is Phil Burnell.
