High Guardian Spice - Tumblr: The CalArt Anime

They ripped of Mao-chan-sensei from Endro with the devil teacher.View attachment 2678735View attachment 2678736
Spice was already in the works before Endro! aired, so that isn't it. The most glaring copycat thing beside the cat girl being straight from the Tokyo Mew Mew oneshot is Rosemary looking almost beat-for-beat like Chinatsu from Yuru Yuri. The original character design, however, just smelled like Western Madoka Kaname.

Down to the poofy hair and blue eyes.

LITERALLY Madoka.
Is blond bow girl now the tall redhead dark skinned character?

I concur with a comment I read under one of the trailer videos: this show is an endorsement for anime piracy. I cannot imagine being so cucked as to give money to a company to watch anime I can watch for free , and not only does $0.00 of that money go to the actual producers of said anime, but then they spend that money to produce what should be a money laundering front.

Anime is animation produced in Japan by Japanese people.
Most Japanese animation is produced in South Korea.

Funny thing is, so is most American animation.

This.
Opinion incoming: there is a always shitton of confirmation bias when there's a shitty show we don't like and want to find things to compare it to. I don't think half of the ripoff accusations are actual plagiarism and things like this make the thread boring as hell because it's just THIS LOOKS LIKE THAT BUT THAT'S BETTER.

Instead, consider how Madoka aired in 2011 to become a modern classic among anime fans (even among, or perhaps especially among female watchers), how old Raye must've been to be able to watch it, and how the comic started on Tumblr as her weird low effort self-insert thing. Madoka is deceptively designed to be a generic pink anime girl but there are elements in Rosemary's design that are unmistakingly unique to her - the length and spiky style of the pigtails with the same thick bows, the overall silhouette of the dress, the poof sleeves. That's how we know the design at that point was based off of Madoka and isn't a coincidence but Rosemary's design now can't really be compared to anything since it's clearly shitty art evolution turning her pigtails into generic blobs and some changes to try and make it a little more original. On that note I feel like the brown in her design could've worked, just not on that outfit and not in those shades.

Agreed. If I can give Raye anything, at least she managed to make the outfit into something else on her own.

@elzaw Funny that the best couple is actually the straight one.

Late I know, I think they're actually going for the classic witch's coven where you have Maiden, Matron, and Crone.
I feel like this might be the only thing the show did correctly design wise. Its kind of a cool thing to have them all look like the same woman through time. Clearly someone payed attention long enough in art school to learn the whole "tell the character's story through their design" part. Although, part of me still suspects Raye is an actually good artists that's held back by Crunchy Roll demanding they do this horrible off anime design thing.

There's actually a few things in this show that, if handled by a more talented team, could have been very cool or interesting. These three characters could have been so much more for the reasons you provided, the funicular shows that at least some thought was put into world design and is something that Americans really would find novel or unorthodox and would help with the "fantastical world" angle, the fact that the pet is a chest mimic could be done very well to make the animal companion more than just comic relief or cute bait. Hell, even the tranny could have been a neat character idea to explore the possibilities of magic, the mom being evil is a classic twist but could have added depth to the conflict since it would test Rosemary.

But like this entire show it's all surface level and lazy.

I've seen her personal art on her tumblr. It's resoundingly mediocre at best and is essentially either a webcomic-y art style similar to that old ass poster of HGS (where Rosemary still looks like Madoka and Thyme is still white) but with the updated character designs, or it's the anime-esque art style similar to the one used in the show.

Are we talking about rip-offs?

Because I feel like these two are supposed to be Haruka and Michiru but without any charm or personality.

No, seriously, their entire personality is just being lesbians.

I know that... the one on the left is supposed to be some stupid self insert, but could they at the least put effort into making her fit into a medieval fantasy setting? She looks like she was plucked from a chibified Phantasy Star game.

I'm genuinely shocked this is still ongoing and has made a level of progress.

Has it been pointed out Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, and Parlsey AREN'T SPICES yet? They're herbs. Real examples of spices are pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and even vanilla.
Yeah, like twenty times.

Lavender, Hakone, Aloe and others are plants and grass too.

Four years of writing, and they couldn't even get this shit right.

I found a list of exclusively 30-40 spices in no more than five seconds.
