If 'defund the police' fully got its way it would probably look like empowered feds and staties in some cases to deal with 'white supremacists' and 'insurrectionists' and totally neutered local police. What would fill the vacuum would probably be all manner of Americanized Colectivos, conglomerations of literal criminal gangs, local political apparatchiks and all the 'public safety violence interrupter' types that are all for defunding. We already have a good idea of what it would probably look like since Kyle self-defended against a pretty representative cross-section of the kind of people that would join them. The irony is, the people who think this don't live in the areas where it is possible, rural areas already solve most of their "crime" issues on the spot because the sheriff or State Trooper is 30-45min away. These law enforcement are more for handling warrants and arresting people, not for intervention of active crimes. But the rural people are zealously opposed to defunding the police. Its the urbanites who rely on police the most that parrot this insane shit.

Hugo Chavez quite literally defunded and then abolished the Metropolitan Police of Caracas (who were far from perfect and were perfectly capable of brutality and corruption on their own). He then created the Bolivarian National Police to pick up the slack on paper, but in practice devolved most of their power to the colectivos. Imagine simply disbanding the Portland or the Minneapolis Police altogether then expanding the FBI to fill in for them while now openly funding and arming the local jogger gangs and antifa cadres to work alongside them and allowing them to murder with impunity.
