NYC Piece of Intel: On the morning of November 3, 2020 shortly before 5am I left home to head for the gym for an early workout, and walked by a surprisingly long line at my election day precinct for right before 5am (I had already early voted so I didn't need to worry about joining the line.)
Today, November 2, I decide to investigate how long the line is at around 4:45am. Arrived at around 4:48am and stayed until 5:05am. No line, just what I'm assuming were election day workers heading in for work some of them a couple minutes late.
Maybe a couple of the people who walked in right at 5:01am were people coming into vote, but I'm not sure. Either way, the early morning turnout for 2020 Pres was dozens of people forming a long line before 5:00am even hit. For 2021 Mayor, no line at all. Just a quiet street with election day workers heading in for preparation.
If Repub aligned voters have more energy than they did in 2017, it will be the best GOP performance in NYC since Bloomberg's wins
of course, I don't expect Sliwa to win, but he could give Dems another indicator of how things are swinging against them
edit: turns out voting started today at 6am, not 5am; however I do remember seeing a line of dozens already forming before 5am on November 3 last year
12:00PM Update — I decided to stand near the entrance door in order to people watch the voters coming in and out, while eating some indonesian shrimp crackers. It wasn't completely deserted, there was a somewhat regular flow of people, but no lines forming - more like the kind of interspersed bursts of 1 or 2 people together entering like what you'd see while waiting in front of the entrance to a Walgreens. As expected, the people I saw were mainly old and obviously physically infirm more often than not. Some who looked middle aged. Mayyyybe one woman was in the 25-29 range but she was Asian so that's a bit ambiguous. Saw no one who I'd be confident in placing in the 18-24 range, it's possible I didn't see anyone under 35 enter or leave. I was people watching for about 10 minutes before heading back home.
