Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Fairfax waked up but still not enough, they only managed to remove .04% with 20% more counted votes, they are at 57%

So, according to my expert analysis,* they need that spending stuff to pass... now. This seems extremely dire for the Biden administration. If they can't do anything but insist we're still in a crisis and do nothing, America will start voting for people who will.

*Note that I am a dumbass.

I don't expect it to happen, but after tonight I would say it's a non-zero chance that Biden goes back on the mandates. I mean, that was a BIG point of contention in Virginia, and it might have pushed Youngkin over the top.

Again, I don't expect it to happen, but it might be on the table to, let's say, quietly memory hole some of the more severe mandates.

It was memoryholed here in Iowa about two days after it was announced.

Sir I think you're focusing on the wrong inter-party civil war
I mean, you're both right. Both sides of the Republican split will declare victory, but this is a massive loss for the Dems.

Spending after tonight is dead. Virginia is a gigantic referendum on the spending. No way Manchin ever bends on it now.

Edit: Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General races have both been called for the Republicans.

Nah. Chesterfield's at 50% and VA Beach is at 22%... I probably spoke too soon, tbh.

Well, he’s not wrong. And neither of those two groups are wrong either: Youngkin did the smart thing, and neither emphatically embraced nor rejected Trump’s support, and is benefitting from an energized Trump base and the cuckservative base who thumbed their nose at Trump coming back out to vote for him.

Agreed, but I doubt that it will get through to the White House for a couple of weeks yet.
