Redistricting update...
Hopefully everyone partied responsibly after the victory this week.
Arkansas has passed it's new map, which took French Hill's Trump leaning 2nd district and shored it up by splitting Pulaski County. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R-Cuck) has refused to sign it citing concerns that it doesn't respect minority communities, but, he won't veto it meaning it will pass into law without his signature after a longer period allowing Democrats more time to sue.
Republicans in North Carolina have passed a new map. It is a 10R-3D-1SW map. Democrats are already crying about the VRA, but as a Republican is Chief Justice of NC Supreme Court, he can slow walk the processes to 2022, when the courts narrow Dem majority is up for reelection.
Iowa passed its maps. It's....less than ideal. Iowa redistricting is wonky, with a commission and rules that are heavily parochial. Essentially they shored up one district but it and the two others are still only marginal Trump seats while the fourth is a Republican vote sink. Still, it's better than the commission gave them.
In Alabama, Republicans passed new districts with a least changes map. The black VRA district was expanded as it bleed allot of people. Democrats are suing because the VRA district packs too many (in their opinion) back voters in. While it's nice to Dems admit that the VRA's original purpose is no longer valid ie black candidates can win in the South just fine as long as they aren't tied to a Socially Liberal party, this reeks of sour grapes.
On the horizon, more things loom. Montana's commission looks to be advancing a 2R map, which will be a +1 for the GOP to offset Oregon's new district that Dems gerrymandered themselves. New Mexico Dems are debating whether to go for three Dem seats. Currently the southern NM seat is a Trump +10 seat that they won in 2018 and immediately lost in 2020. Oklahoma has begun it's process, with indications that it will shore up the OKC district Kendra Horn won in 2018 and lost in 2020. In New Hampshire, Republican's have unveiled a bold map that would cede NH 2 in order to solidify NH1 as a GOP district.
