Think about what happens on the gulf coast when a hurricane knocks out the grid for days or weeks at a time. How will you move people out? How will you sustain local relief operations without a fuel supply? You can truck in some tankers full of gas, but you can't exactly put a bunch of electricity on the back of a truck and ship it in, after all.

Shit, earlier this year a hurricane knocked out the power in a wide swatch of Louisiana for weeks, including a city as large as New Orleans. Tens of thousands of people temporarily evacuated after the storm when the electricity went out. Imagine if the vehicles were all electric. Everyone would have been fucked.

Or the massive influx of people moving to the major cities because living outside them is impossible due to no gas cars and no infrastructure to support electric cars.

You'll only be able to leave the city if you're 1) rich 2) have a reason to (mining, fixing infrastructure / solar panels / wind turbines. They'll say "If you wanna farm, do it at the vertical farms we have in the city". Its gonna take 1 major natural disaster to show how bad this idea is.

Blackouts are coming no matter what. Shutting down oil, gas, coal, and nuclear plants while trying to push unreliable solar and wind power inevitably leads to shortages; and we'll all be told to shut off our lights and computer between 6PM-6AM to "save the planet". Battery death by cold weather is a thing in northern climes.

Also, in normal cars the byproduct of internal combustion heats the cabin. In an electric car battery power also has to heat the humans.

Electric cars are toys up North. And the grid can’t handle wide scale adoption.

I don't understand why 13 Republicans voted for this other than they are swamp people. Even if this is "bare bones" the NPC voters will see this as Biden being competent and can get things done compared to Trump. Because the media will help pump this up and make it look like it's going to fix all these emerging problems. It won't win him the election of course but it will help them regain all the confidence lost after the fall of Mcauliffe. In my opinion, its a major win, and I hope it doesn't mess up the GOP victory in VA.
