8 People Dead and others hospitalized at Travis Scotts Astroworld festival

my parents dropped me off super young at festivals (14-15 y/o). I was a pretty independent kid- but the fact is nobody should die at a concert. Ever. The risk of me being drugged/abducted/etc was VERY real but the risk of a crowd crush should always be zero. Regardless of if a 14 y/o (or a 10 y/o for that matter) should've been in that pit is completely irrelevant as it never should've turned out as dangerous and deadly as it did.

All the racism and vitriol in this thread is to be expected and as it should be- but nobody, and i mean nobody, deserves to die at the hand of someone else's poor planning, especially not when they paid to have the time of their lives.. There is absolutely no reason that GA was boxed in on all sides. There is absolutely NO REASON that there weren't sections with separate barricades. There is NO REASON for Travis Scott to build his brand on fucking shit up, disrespecting authority, and hurting people. Travis Scott cut corners financially and incited his fans to create a deadly situation out of an unsafe one. He should be held accountable.
I agree with what you say, but put it this way: good for you that you were that independent and capable, but most 14yo aren't. Yes, concerts should offer all guarantees, but what you think that my parents would have done if they were with me in that concert and saw all the insanity happening? They would've made me leave and that could have saved my life.

A good parent would tag along and promise to not tell anyone what was said or done. They’re just there for safety, and it’s a rap concert. Sending a white 14 year old to a rap concert with parental supervision is insanity, without it is suicide. And do they not know what kind of lyrics Travis Scott has or what he represents? His music is shit and his shows have been dangerous in the past.

Has there been no gore or large amount of vids from these vapid zoomers? I’d have thought for sure we’d have seen all 8 people who died actually dying on vid by now. I think one of the vids has the 14 year old in it. The guy who was dancing on the ambulance posted it, I’d think someone would want to grift off exclusive video of a 14 year old white kid trying to be resuscitated.
The videos are on Twitter.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Thinking back on it I'm ASTOUNDED my parents did that. My kids will certainly be much more supervised than I was.

That being said, I think the whole issue was that they COULDN'T leave. The pit had chest-high barricades bolted into the ground on all four sides with very few exits. If you look at the videos of people trying to get out they have to be YANKED by several people out and over the barricade. Nobody had enough room to even make a path to let people get out.

The people who didn't make it out died of cardiac arrest because their lungs were squished and they couldn't get enough oxygen.

I remember hearing stories about shit like this in some metal concerts a friend of mine went to back in high school. Kinda makes me wonder about how frequently shit like this happens at big concerts without making actual news headlines. The mosh pit zone is like the PRIME place shit like this happens in you do not want to be caught in that crowd tide.
People at metal concerts are not stupid, if you fall down in the pit somebody always picks you up, the most common injury is just a busted lip, that's all.

You folks need to get off your high-horse. Yes, the music is trash. But rowdy youth audiences have always been a handful. Look up the chaos of the Use Your Illusion Tour. We have sorta forgotten how these things go because current acts have moved away from live performances. Up through the 90's gigantic insane concert tours were the norm.

This is why this is such a tragedy, the promoters got complacent.
This is why I dislike concerts.

I don’t even pay attention to what’s in the music, I just don’t understand what the fuck current day music is. There’s no good sound, no good beat, just a bunch of weird shit. Like EDM is good, some current pop stuff is decent, but this new nigger rap music is shit. Like this song here is a perfect example of it. Only reason it has a beat is because it literally ripped off previous ones. I love the self-snitching too, shows how stupid nigs are.
One of the stranger developments of my lifetime is that pop rap production ended up sounding like the experimental electronic music I listened to late 90s/early 00's. Reference point:

At this point I willing to bet you could get some nigger to mumble over a Merzbow track and it would top the spotify chart.

Oh Lord, go to 29 minutes. People are trying to clear the way for an ambulance and the performer is aware of this - he even says that there's an ambulance. He's then clearly confused on what to do next, and hesitates. He can then see the ambulance as it has its lights flashing and he tells everyone to clear the middle and stop what they're doing and put their hands up. OK - that makes sense. I figured he got everyone to put their hands up in order to get them to stop what they are doing. I was wrong.

The video then becomes mind-shatteringly stupid. He says, "I'm going to make the motherfucking ground shake," and then strobe lights, flares, and other bright lights start going off and some ultra loud music starts up. I'm sure the ambulance personnel, who were trying to deal with casualties in the middle of a ridiculously dense crowd, really appreciated that.

I can't imagine trying to deal with dead or dying people, in a dense crowd, in darkness except for the strobe lights going off and near deafening, abrasive music assaulting the ears. God damn. Being a paramedic is stressful under normal circumstances. The people in the crowd also just started bobbing along with the music. Seriously, what the hell? Why wasn't the performance stopped? Apparently, staff told him to keep going. Were they afraid people would riot or what?
That whole concert and subsequent shitshow is modern American society in a nutshell. Every video was disturbing to see; I cannot imagine BEING there. Who gets sued and by who? Travis Scott, AstroWorld, security, the fans? The next concert will definitely have precautions to prevent this.

This meme just keeps getting better everyday.

This shit doesn't happen at EDM festivals.
No it doesn’t. I remember a decade or so ago when I went to a Tiesto concert, back when Tiesto didn’t sell out, and none of this happened. People were seated and danced by their seats in the outer areas of the arena, and the people in the center partied and were in control of themselves.

And this was in Houston, mind you.

Next concert? Oh you.

AstroWorld is dead after this. There is no next time.

As to who gets sued? Everyone. The venue. The promoter. The security. The city. The artists. The ambulance service. The fence company. The charter bus companies. The paper company whose product the ticket was printed on. The hooker blowing roadies out back by the dumpsters. EVERYONE.

The liabilities are huge and all of their lawyers are going to drag in everyone else's lawyers and they are going to fight about this in court for the next decade.

I'm not talking about AstroWorld. Any future concert anywhere will have to step their security up after this one.
Most do. This is far from the first crush at a concert and what to do to prevent it is very well known. These people just ignored them and half-assed it all. Treated it like a preseason Texans game. That is why they are going to get sued into oblivion.

People often say in response, "well ACDC and The Who were degenerates too!" And maybe that's true. I tend to think their music at least has some level of aesthetic value, compared to this shite. But still, I think that this modern music has crossed beyond mere "transgression" into something just completely devoid of any value to civilization. It's not rebellious or revolutionary. It's not the kind of social transgression that liberates your mind and your soul, like the best of rock music, or even rave music. This modern cultural product of Cardi B and Travis Scott is just worthless, grey colored, soulless, borderline demonic nihilism that promotes the absolute worst variety of mindless materialistic ignorance and barbarism. It's not "cool" - at least I don't think so. It's completely alienating and colorless and makes the world a more dreary place to live in.
I don't know much about AC/DC's music but The Who had quite strong, positive spiritual themes in their music - especially once their concept album Tommy was written. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey both rejected the use of drugs (the former because of his religious beliefs and the latter because they just didn't interest him). Keith Moon, their drummer was (in)famous for being a wild partier and prankster but that was just his personality in general and privately was known to be a wonderful human being (according to his friend and all-around class act Alice Cooper). Their bassist John Entwistle (one of the best in the business) was known to be quite reserved as well.

Townshend's attempted 'Lifehouse' project (which later became the basis for their all-time classic album Who's Next and a bit of 1978's Who Are You) was literally about a decaying, polluted police state where people were fed a shitload of vapid, shallow propagandistic entertainment and those who preferred the sincerity of genuine human feeling fleeing into the countryside. In Townshend's words:

"The essence of the story-line was a kind a futuristic scene…It’s a fantasy set at a time when rock ’n’ roll didn’t exist. The world was completely collapsing and the only experience that anybody ever had was through test tubes. In a way they lived as if they were in television programs. Everything was programmed. The enemies were people who gave us entertainment intravenously, and the heroes were savages who’d kept rock ‘n’ roll as a primitive force and had gone to live with it in the woods. The story was about these two sides coming together and having a brief battle."

I don't know about you but I'd say he was on to something.

Edit: I recommend checking out the song 'Bargain' from their album Who's Next. It's about somebody being willing to suffer anything the world can throw at them for the glory of God.

"I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad
I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed
I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had"

I want to know what kind of fucking exceptional white parents would send their 14 year old child to a Travis Scott concert. The reason Gen Z is so exceptional is because the parents let their kids listen to this “music.” Idk how someone calls it rap, it’s literally nigger music. This kid’s mom ruined the laughs I was getting from this article from the 2nd pic. Like what the actual fuck is that creatura. That’s early 20’s…

I feel bad for all the victims. I’m curious though: have they all been white or Hispanic so far? Seems weird to me that we haven’t seen any black people in the deceased considering they were a large % of the attendees.
