Ethics in journalism wasn't a cause, it was a canary. Yeah, I'd be inclined to agree. Stefan Molyneux once described video games as "the black market of male achievement", and while I disagree with Molyneux on almost everything, I think he was on to something there. They're more important than people give them credit for, and "gaining complacence" is one of the reasons why it always worries me when pro-technocrat and pro-transhuman journos start gushing about "gamefying" non-game aspects of society. The media has replaced the church as the opiate which the ruling class administers to the people, and games are potentially the most effective form of media.
