Yep I often bring this up with Richard lowtaxes doom house. The early internet was where low tier shitty videos went but it was the fucking internet.

Not to mention how nice it was to see someone (apparently) normal playing a video game and pointing out shit that average people could relate to. The tiny bit of gaming videos at the time tended to just be speedruns, or top-tier professional play. There weren't many people who got creative or had any charisma with their videos, it was just autists showing off how they can perfectly play through DuckTales or whatever. With no face or even controller cams or anything, it was just a low-res screen capture of the game that could have been faked, for all anyone knew. He was the first guy I knew of that actually showed off the experience of actually playing the games normally, and how frustrating they could be. It wasn't just lightning in a bottle, he was also the first of his kind.

The difference between a talent and a hack is that the second one's performance gets worse the more resources he has. The only film James would be a good fit to direct would be some silent black&white Universal Monster flick. He got half a million for his stupid AVGN movie and he was such a feebleminded clown he decided to shoot at the most expensive land on planet Earth, force actual movie theatres to release this cinemassacre instead of going DTV and permit his wife to meddle with his creative vision. He used to spend fan donations on renovating his house, so it's not a case of deliberate overspending to make fans happy.


What the actual fuck is his wife doing around the house? Eating ice cream before TV for 16h/day? Offering her lubed asshole to Monster Mike? Certainly not taking care of the house & kids. There's ton of work with babies but once they're capable of feeding and cleaning after themselves you're not stressed and underslept all the time anymore. The whole fucking point of marriage is, aside from political convenience, the splitting of roles to better support the maturing of kids so husband doesn't have to work 12+ hours 'a day and tend to everything else in the house in his spare time.

BTW. "maturing" tends to kill the funny bone in you sometimes, I guess Jim shooed away everyone because they've had it up their temples constantly hearing about kids, chores and excuses when Jimmy the Nerd couldn't be there for them yet another fucking time. James can't take anything seriously, everything he does is always tongue-in-cheek. All of his "films" are comedies and played for laughs, that's the reason why not only the AVGN movie failed but basically anything he ever did. For the AVGN series and to some extent Board James that mood worked because the concept was always too ridiculous to be taken seriously, but for his other endeavors that becomes a serious issue.

Look at Rex Diaper, for example, he's always making silly faces in front of terrible green-screen effects, the arrangement is so over the top that even Europe's The Final Countdown becomes contained and subtle in comparison, and they don't even have the capacity to write new music, just making the band looking even more of a novelty act to amuse parties and nothing else.

Do you think any band in the world would become famous doing this shit? Now think about movie directors.

James set himself to failure because he won't have the capacity to take anything with maturity ever. Everything he does always need to be a silly and goofy comedy, it sucks.

The most fitting possible game I can think of for episode 200 would be Dead Rising 4. It's like a perfect parallel for the AVGN:

• It's explicitly a Christmas game, something extremely uncommon outside of movie licenses
• A completely different studio took over the series, making it progressively worse with each new release
• DR2 and 3 had their critics and fans, but DR4 was universally maligned
• DR4 starred Frank West, the same guy from the first game, except he looked, sounded, and acted completely different, as they took what made him wAcKy from the first game and ran with that, completely ditching every single aspect that grounded him
• At the end of Dead Rising 4, Frank dies. A lot of people ITT and on Reddit have postulated how they could kill the Nerd off to end the series, so it'd be fitting with this game
• Dead Rising as a series would work very well for the AVGN anyway, as it's full of weird and frustrating things. The first game is widely considered a modern classic and easily one of the best games on the Xbox 360. They get progressively worse, but 2/2 OTR and 3 are still worth playing. Both DR4 and modern AVGN suffer from the heavy contrast between their glory days and how they ended up.

I seem to remember there was an episode where the Nerd seemingly did die and that if you consider the episodes to have "lore," the Nerd would be dead by now. I of course can't remember which episode it was, but I'm not crazy, right? Anyone else remember that?

That said, the DR series is too new to be Nerd material, I think. I tried to play the first one but the controls and lack of auto-save annoyed me. If they ever remaster it with controls closer to what other third-person perspective games have nowadays and don't make it so I have to wander halfway across the map through hallways full of enemies who can take half your life bar in a single encounter just to save, I might give it another try.
