G4 Returning in 2021

The reversal in attitudes about sex in American culture never ceases to make me feel like I'm taking crazy pills, it just doesn't make any sense for things to go backwards, it also doesn't make sense how weirdly hypocritical it all is, the left loves OnlyFans and sex workers, but in other contexts don't you dare put a woman in a bikini, there's very little logic to it, but essentially I would say things went full circle, from sex being something that used to be very hidden away from the mainstream relegated to sleazy movie theaters or a certain section of the video store, to something that became very mainstream, back to something that is hidden away again.

I just miss the more relaxed attitudes of the 2000s.

Sessler reviewed Metroid Dread. He starts it off by making a pretty shallow reference to Dante's Inferno which made me groan but then he made fun of himself by saying he's a Lit Major which made me laugh and shows he does have self awareness when he's acted pretentious in the past.


Sess talks about Metroid critiquing the Emmi sequences as being cliche and complains that the game has purposely obtuse moments of key items being hidden in walls. Not stuff I necessarily agree with being bad game design but I get where Sessler is coming from. He then brings on a Twitch Streamer and they have a back & forth discussing the merits of Metroid gameplay.

Honestly I'm impressed by this content, I think this a good job and it's informative. I like that Sessler is being honest with his views but at the same time isn't pretending to be a definitive authority. I hope this current format for X-Play continues.

Scott the Woz YouTube reuploads on G4TV will only do so much to bring back the passion of “gaming“ to the younger generation.

An eSports news show and only Kevin is returning to AoTS, yet no Morgan on xPlay?

Might as well just watch the old archives of this show online. Plus, seeing these photos of the cast in question remind me so much of the GTA V mission where Michael pretends to be a hacker and join a tech start up

The Black Hokage? Well it's Current Year+6 so I'm sure the guy chose the nickname but it's still funny that he's essentially labeled "The Token Black" of X-Play.

I don't give a shit about E-Sports beyond learning about autistic nerd hijinks (make more schizo videos Hax$!). But anyway the Nu-X-Play might turn out alright. I just hope Adam Sessler can maintain being honest with his commentary without falling back into insipid leftist diatribes. So far he's done well but gotta keep in mind midterms are around the corner.

I like that they're hiring Scott The Woz for content because that surely annoys Reeesetera. Morgan Webb still lists Bonfire Games as her current employer so I assume they're paying her way more than G4TV ever could. Also Rob Pardo (of Classic Blizzard fame) is in that studio so it's surely more exciting to be working there with far more potential. And besides if Bonfire Studios doesn't work out she can always return to X-Play.

But yeah Sessler is 48 and looking a little rough. Kevin Pierra looks almost the same which is pretty impressive.

The CoD:Vanguard review was the first piece of nu-G4 content I watched all the way through.
Not that it was spectacular or anything, but it was surprisingly decent. Kinda groaned a bit at the excessive Nazi jokes, but the multiplayer segment was actually somewhat informational.

Praying the only way this can go is up, but who knows.

This won't surprise anyone but the actual TV channel has been pretty bad so far, it's been mostly Ninja Warrior with about one hour of G4 original content every five hours of acquired content. And on day one before they had the edited livestreams to play, the only G4 content to play was last year's reunion special, over and over. No pre-2020 G4 content has aired.

The bumps and ads for shows are all unspoken text with simple animations and music; the production values are more like a slightly upscale Twitch stream than a TV channel. There are very few ads used in breaks that aren't G4's, maybe 3 so far.

No old content has been a big disappointment, which is what I was most hoping to see.

If sessler is going to review games he should state what drugs he's on while playing them and if they enhance or detract from the experience

I'm curious if the main reason they aren't airing old G4 stuff is that they've lost access to it, because most of the clips of old G4 shows in new G4 shows are clearly low quality recordings they took from the internet.
