I voted "mixture of verdicts" in the poll because my expectation was not guilty on all felony counts but guilty on the misdemeanor possession charge, since that one seemed pretty open and shut. He was a minor in possession of a firearm, right? But that charge was dropped, so I'm changing my vote to full acquittal. I'm optimistic about this verdict, I think the case as a whole is WAY different from Chauvin's shitshow as not only is Kyle more sympathetic in general, but there's a lot less ambiguity about what he did IMO, and the prosecution is was less competent for this one. The prosecution is even worse than the prosecution in the George Zimmerman trial for those who remember that. I guess we'll see how it goes, it's not like shitposting and analyzing the trial on the Internet is going to affect the verdict.

If they don't reach a verdict in less than 3 1/2 hours, I think every half hour after that really increases the chances of a hung jury.

Andrew Branca was scathing about Hard R's efforts at closing arguments today. Totally different take to reading this thread. Basically blames Richards if Kyle gets any charges. It comes down to a few points, he was too angry in his delivery, he didn't anticipate and address the talking points of the prosecution in rebuttal and he didn't methodically step through the elements of self defense as applied to each charge. He is a self defense attorney after all so take that how you will.

Accuse me of huffing copium but I really don't think the closing statements mattered all to much. Every unbiased member of the jury has had to have made up their mind long ago. The only "proof" the prosecution has submitted is that we don't know the midget wanted to beat Kyle to death and that the defence can't prove he verbally threatened Kyle..... It's not the defence who can collect evidence. It's the state, who has shown time and time again that they don't give a fuck about having a fair or legal trial. I think this will only come down to how scared the jury is of another riot and which side is willing to drag their feet the longest.

I think whether going after Binger was a good idea or not depends on whether the jury hated him or not. Neither we nor Branca can actually see them and how they have been reacting but from what I've heard they don't seem to be fans of Binger. The defense has some famous jury consultant working with them, so hopefully her observations played a role in the decision.

It's already happening. I know that in the more feral areas of Chicago ethnic gangs patrolled the streets during the riots, and were much more effective at stopping any property damage than the police force. I doubt any of this would have been tolerating during the mob's heyday; can't get paid protection money if the business is burned down by a bunch of nignogs. Not saying that I see either of those situations as the ideal, but it just goes to show that modern police forces/the justice system are so terrible at this point that they're outcompeted in terms of efficacy by actual gangsters. Big Tony may bend you over a barrel for protection money but he's not going to do anything except pat you on the back if you shoot an arsonist from another neighborhood. If cops can't be bothered to stop a mob from burning the city down, but they can arrest you for obviously defending yourself from the mob, it can't get much worse than that.
