If a normal person went running towards gunfire in any circumstance it blows giant holes in self defense. It's the police's job to stop threats to the public, not " vigilantes". I was worried all day long about the jury's decision, I expected to come home to KF either celebrating Kyle's freedom or mourning the death of Justitia.
If I had come to find Kyle deemed guilty by the jury, I would not have been able to stomach the video of him suffering through that travesty of justice.

I am so goddamned worried about this poor kid. Is this long waiting time for the jury normal, does this bode ill or well? It's also easier to disarm someone in a setting like walmart.

Shelving and displays break up line of sight. While it's infinitely scarier if you are someone who doesn't feel like they can disarm someone, it's easier to navigate and escape.
Furthermore, aisles make it easier for someone to follow from a safe distance and close it at an appropriate time.

Outside it's easier to assess the situation even in a matter of seconds.
Is there a rapid succession of gunshots? Are multiple people hit? Is the shooter still holding his gun in an indication that they will continue to shoot? Does it seem like there was an altercation?

You can gain a lot of information from a quick observation because you can get a scope of what's occurring and decide appropriate action. Being able to recognize dangers and nothingburgers is instinctual. If you're someone doped up on psych meds and sitting on Twitter all day, your natural fight or flight instinct is nonexistent.

I guess I can empathize with the person who doesn't have the ability to recognize real threats. It's a real mental handicap and an unfortunate side effect due to modern society.
