Good news, then! Jim clearly isn't emotionally invested in AAA video games! He was at one point in life, but now he's unquestionably burnt out and only commenting on them because it's his job. You can tell by how gleefully he throws himself at any subject only tangentially related to games, and sometimes completely unrelated to them.

Jim is AVGN now. Actually, Jim is worse than AVGN. While both are performative, AVGN at least had the good sense to try to split his life from his character, so once the character and the genre outstayed his welcome he still had something to work with, and while Cinemassacre seems to have stagnated at least it's not in borderline freefall like Jimquisition is. Meanwhile, Jim just dove into the character and is never coming back for air.

A combined 75k views between them, yeah I think it's safe to say they didn't do well.

I think a lot of people pointed out at the time --ignoring the fact a grown man playing with low-quality toys is about the least entertaining thing imaginable-- even by the standards of that sector of YouTube Jim did a truly shit job. Most of the toys were never properly framed or in focus and he had no idea what he was talking about half the time; basically the exact kind of low-effort, 'ironic' shit you'd expect from Jim when it's just him in front of a camera, improvising.

I think the Angry Gamer Man schtick always had a shelf-life. As both the creators and the audience get older it becomes less funny and more sad to watch.

I guess I should give credit to Jim for at least being genuine in his outrage (as opposed to AVGN who's just acting) but the more I think about it it's actually sadder that a man pushing 40 --unmarried, no kids; not even a dog any more-- is this emotionally invested in something as not important as AAA video games.

James Rolfe has always struck me as a good-natured, generally socially well-adjusted guy hamming it up and having fun. In his real life, he's got a wife and two kids. If you don't like his schtick, oh well, I can't hate a dude who's enjoying himself and apparently making a living from it. Jim is a fat, joyless, broken nerd whose entire identity comes from children's toys and being terminally online.

I think in a recent Gay Times article I read, fearmongering about the 'deadliest year on record' for trans people (45 deaths btw; so deadly,) it stated that in the vast majority of cases the killer was known to the victim; usually a family member, spouse etc. So yeah, the transphobe behind every blade of grass narrative is complete and utter horseshit.

I've said it earlier and I've said it again, Jim pre-troonshit has actual ok reviews of things other than games. Now that' he's TAAAAAAANNNNSSSS he's been trying to frame it like His actual love for things in the past were all just "Boyz toys eitsis social conditioning! Remember the eitsies!" Feigning ignorance about boglins and their names and shit when he had an entire review series covering boglins in-depth only a few years years back being one symptom of this false "BOYS TOYS BAD EISIES AAAA" persona Jim's been putting on. That fucking aliens review had him Going from showing genuine intrigue to framing it as "HAHA DUMB STUPID TOYS AAAAAA", a far cry from his earlier where he treated the items with actual care and respect. The things aren't dollar/bootleg toy quality they're just simplistic.

It's really simple to make a figure review and jim somehow went beyond half-assing it in a sense. About a year or so ago I found this shit that's on the complete opposite end of the review quality spectrum from Jim. Well shot, really nice presentation I haven't seen on many reviews of figures of any kind.

I think it depends on which RLM show you're talking about. The nerd acting is pretty hammed up, but on the few podcast interviews they've done they seem as laid-back and normal as they are at the end of any Best of the Worst or Re:View.

I could be wrong, but I always thought half the point of AVGN is that he's poking fun at overly serious critics. AVGN's making damning statement toward 20 year old games that not only the people, but the companies have moved on from, and yet he's treating it like like it's death serious business.

What's notable about this is unlike Sterling, Rolfe know how to separate these things from his main draw, the AVGN, so that they don't distract.

Some day Rolfe's going to be 70 years old, have a library of fun and entertaining things he's created, children that love and visit him, and probably still have his wife. Imagine Sterling when he's 70. He'll probably be living in a group home with several aged troons that he HATES, being miserable and lonely, and searching desperately for anything that can remind him of what it was like to have an intact penis.
