I don't understand how anyone can consider this and not feel violent disgust. To have the highest authorities who decide basically who lives and dies, making their decisions based on social pressure and mob rule is an indictment of the entire society as a whole. A society where this is allowed to happen is a society that doesn't deserve to continue existing.

It isn't shouldn't be something people are saying passively or with mild tone. It's an absolute violation of the fundamental grounding upon which the entire pretext for our social fabric rests. If our institutions can't operate properly, then they should not be complied with. By anybody.
